The French designer is not a newbie in the home décor universe. In 2010, Gaultier worked alongside Roche Bobois to transform his iconic Madonna cone bra, among other designs, into furniture and textiles that were eventually shown in a retrospective about him at the Brooklyn Museum. Two years later, in 2012, Lelièvre and Jean Paul Gaultier started a collaboration with the signing of a licence agreement between the two brands. And so far, there have been 4 collections of fabrics and accessories developed through the craftsmanship of Lelièvre and the talent of Gaultier. The inspirations, Oxydation, Azulejos, Botanique, the celebrated marinière stripe and the spirit of Paris are all recognisable areas of expression used by Jean Paul Gaultier and played out in the motifs of the fabrics and accessories.

The year 2017 sets a turning point in the history of Lelièvre with the launch of its first wallpaper collection, under the name ‘Jean Paul Gaultier by Lelièvre’. “We are delighted that our first collection of wallpapers is from the universe of haute couture and Jean Paul Gaultier. This is just the start of many daring collections which will be developed by Lelièvre”, stated Emmanuel Lelièvre.

Adorned with metallic flecks, graphic stripes, and florals covered in glitter, the collection has drawn inspiration from some of Gaultier’s most iconic designs. “Completing a wardrobe or an interior space requires the same approach…wallpaper is both traditional and innovative at the same time, taking us on a new adventure with Lelièvre. We know that they have the same level of craftsmanship as we have in our haute couture fashion!”, said Gaultier.

The collection spreads through several themes. The Porto model resembles hand painted and patterned tiles, in a design inspired by the station of São Bento and the houses of Douro and Porto. Tranquil and timeless, the misty landscape of the Brume option has a contrasting matt and a sublime shine finish. Discretely elegant, the Horimono model has a Japanese feel and works well as a plain paper with all the other designs. We could go on. The wallpapers, produced by European manufacturers using the latest printing technology, represent a total of 15 designs and 42 colours in this remarkable first wallpaper collection already available for purchase at Lelièvre.
