Commune Design Studio was founded in 2004 in Los Angeles by Roman Alonso, Steven Johanknecht, Pamela Shamshiri, and Roman Shamshiri. The founders said that Commune was founded with one main principle: “Eclectic assemblages that work in harmony with their surroundings while paying homage to historic and international design.

Their inclusion in AD Top 100 Interior Designers to follow next year is due to works like Durham Hotel in Durham, North Carolina, a vacation cottage in Kona, Hawaii, and a private sky and residences in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Commune performs interior designs for residential, commercial and hospitality projects worldwide, along with a wide range of home and lifestyle products, as well as graphic and branding concepts for the fashion, arts, and entertainment industries.

“The rich and varied experiences of our team are reflected in the holistic approach and collaborative mindset brought to each project,” said Steven Johanknecht.

The Commune team has designed the Durham Hotel in Durham, North Carolina, using conventional colors, finest materials and finishes, mid-century customized furniture, geometric carpets and hand painted tiles in the hotel entrance. All these elements and decorative accessories were inspired by the likes of Josef and Anni Albers, Charles Eames, and Albert Frey, reflecting the brand’s principles and values.

The hotel provides guests with 53 rooms, a penthouse, a fantastic rooftop bar and a sophisticated restaurant, where you can enjoy a classic yet delicious dinner. At the rooftop bar you can enjoy magnificent cocktails after work, or even a yoga class each morning. The outdoor space is like a paradise inside the city.

“We wanted to create a place that offered a unique, warm and welcoming experience for both guest and locals to enjoy,” said Craig Spitzer, General Manager at The Durham Hotel.

Located in the heart of the majestic Teton Mountains, Four Seasons Residence Club Jackson Hole is a peaceful mountain escape in Teton Village, Wyoming.

Commune Studio was the responsible for the design and furnishments of this private sky club and residences. The result is an astonishing yet sophisticated resort, where you can enjoy a peaceful time surrounded by nature and snow.
