Collecting an impressive amount of interior design awards, Yelena Gerts is a reference. CovetED Magazine got an exclusive interview with the owner and a principal designer of House of Style & Design, based in Holmdel, US. And we will share all the details to get you the inspiration you deserve. Are you ready?
Luxury and elegance are two keywords to her work. Offering personalized service, very detail-oriented with a talent for blending her personal style with the client’s wishes to help them create the homes of their dreams. Along with her team of other designers and experienced trades that stand behind the quality of all the services, the firm specialized in turn-key residential interiors, new constructions, renovations, home solutions and custom window treatments.
Who sees all the successful luxurious projects done, have no idea of how much effort it takes to get there. The most challenging time in her career is now, she believes, with the increasing visibility and demand situation, as well as dealing with the supply. She does not hide her secret to deal with all:
“The only thing we can do now is be honest and straightforward with everyone. I never would imagine that I would say to my clients: ‘you are going to get your custom sofa next year'”
Yelena also has a close relationship with her clients. Through Instagram, she shows her most authentic and honest self, aiming to provide exciting and educational content while showcasing her work and the whole process. Between the audience, you can find successful entrepreneurs, high-profile families and bachelors who are the country’s top executives and attorneys. Clients with a busy lifestyle profile, for whom the company designs turn-key homes from A-Z. From new build blue-prints to monogrammed linens in the closets. “Our clients appreciate the concierge level of service, discretion, and innate ability to serve as a powerful liaison with trade partners while managing strict timelines”, she affirms.
Along with the fashion industry, design is also influenced by time, context and trends. After so long, the reign of neutral tones is giving space to colours. Accordingly to Yelena, they are coming back in a lot of different materials like paint, stone and cabinetry, which makes her excited: “I got pretty bored, looking at the white kitchens with white stone for a while. The use of natural woods, cerusing and my favourite is ombre effect in fabrics, wall-covering and furniture”
VIEWS OF THE FUTURE
After she finishes the current projects, like a contemporary penthouse in Florida, a real castle and an Art Deco mansion in New Jersey, the plan is to finish a furniture line that should be ready to launch by the fall of 2022. And also to make a few exciting collaborations: because of covid, a lot of people re-evaluated their living arrangements: “Comfortable and beautiful spaces, well-made furniture is no longer a luxury, but rather a necessity. Consumers started to appreciate craftsmanship and details that go into each peace more than ever”.
On top of that, she confesses: one of her biggest dreams is to create a product/service that would be niched to a particular demographic group like a male audience. Partner with large retailers, become a household name, to create her own line of furniture. “I feel like I have achieved a lot, but because of my ambitious personality I always dream of more”.
