The legendary Royal Mansour Hotel has expanded its gardens, transforming the former driveway into an oasis, full of olive trees, date palms, and flowering jasmine. The array serves as a vibrant backdrop to the Mansour’s outdoor pool, now outfitted with seven pavilions, as well as its latest dining concept, an alfresco Asian-fusion restaurant that offers a refreshing reprieve from the city’s inescapable tagines.
The expansion is just one of several changes happening at the hotel, which was conceived by King Mohammed VI as a temple to Moroccan craftsmanship and five-star luxury. In partnership with Insider Experience—a company that specializing in exclusive excursions—the hotel now offers tours of the city in vintage sidecars, a slightly harrowing but highly enjoyable way to get your lay of the land.
After strolling around the ramparts and through the medina, the journey ends with a rare glimpse inside the private home of Serge Lutens, the iconoclastic French perfumer, photographer, and designer. Built over the course of 35 years and never before open to the public, the home features elaborate tile work, carved-wood ceilings, and courtyard gardens, all designed down by Lutens himself.
Attention to detail is a point of pride in Marrakech, and certainly at the Royal Mansour, with a personalized, detail-driven service. But the memories that stay with the guests are the sights and smells of the garden, with its swaths of jasmine, gardenia, honeysuckle, fresh mint, and lemon trees.
