Portugal Honoured with Various Distinctions at the World Travel Awards ⇒ Founded in 1993, the World Travel Awards has quickly become the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence around the world. This year, the event took place in various countries, from Ras Al Khaimah to Athens as well as Hong Kong, Guayaquil, Durban, Jamaica and its grand final took place this past Sunday in Lisbon, Portugal. Many countries were awarded in the excellence and innovation that they bring for sectors such as aviation, hospitality and tourism. One country in particular collected various distinctions in the event, and that country was none other than Portugal.

This year, the World Travel Awards celebrated its 25th anniversary and its annual programme was one of the most prestigious and comprehensive within the global industry. In 2018, the event gathered some of the most renowned design makers and opinion leaders of the industry at the historic Pátio de Galé. Now, CovetED takes a look at the many awards won by Portugal, a mesmerising country that is quite rich when it comes to tourism!

As we previously mentioned, tourism is one of Portugal’s biggest strengths. This was made clear at the event by the astronomical number of wins that the country was honoured within this category, including “World’s Leading Destination”, “World’s Leading Island Destination” [Madeira] and “World’s Leading Tourist Board”.

Many hotels based in Portugal were also distinguished at the World Winners category, including the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon (“World’s Leading City Hotel”), the Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel (“World’s Leading Classic Hotel”); The Vine Hotel (“World’s Leading Design Hotel”), the Vila Joya Hotel Restaurant (“World’s Leading Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant”) and the Conrad Algarve (“World’s Leading Luxury Leisure Resort”)

TAP Air Portugal was also honoured with a few distinctions such as World’s Leading Airline to Africa and World’s Leading Airline to South America. Lisbon was named World’s Leading City Destination and City Break Destination. Furthermore, Parques de Sintra in Monte da Lua was awarded the World’s Leading Conservation Company.
Miguel Gaspar, Deputy Mayor, Lisboa City Hall, Turismo de Lisboa, Luis Arnaut, Vice President, Turismo de Lisboa, accept the World’s Leading City Destination and City Break Destination awards in reference to Lisbon.
