Between the Promenade des Anglais and Place Masséna, Maison Albar Le Victoria introduces a contemporary take on the grand Riviera residence. Opened in 2024, the hotel occupies a prominent position in the centre of Nice, with its interiors conceived by GOMIS and Studio MHNA as a private retreat rather than a conventional city hotel. The inspiration comes from the elegant residences that have long defined the Côte d’Azur, translated into a setting that feels intimate, polished, and distinctly Mediterranean.

The Spirit of the 1930s

The interiors draw from the glamour of the French Riviera during the 1930s, but without turning the past into a costume. Soft ivory, white, and greige provide the foundation, while black details and touches of azure blue introduce contrast and recall the Mediterranean beyond the windows. References to Riviera architecture, including the spirit of Villa Kérylos, are absorbed into the design through materials, silhouettes, lacquered surfaces, stone, upholstery, and carefully considered decorative details.

Light as a Material

Light is one of the defining elements of Le Victoria. The interiors have been designed to respond to the particular luminosity of Nice, with pale surfaces and restrained colours allowing natural light to move through the rooms. The effect is especially apparent in the 102 rooms and 30 suites, where calm neutral palettes are punctuated by blue accents and generous views towards either the Mediterranean or the hills behind the city. The result is an atmosphere that feels relaxed without losing its sense of refinement.

Details with a Riviera Soul

The design becomes more expressive in the hotel’s public spaces, where craftsmanship and art add personality to the restrained palette. At Café Victoria, furniture by French manufacturer Collinet brings together comfort and craftsmanship, while artworks by local artists contribute to the hotel’s connection with Nice. At the centre of the building, the sculptural Mimosa chandelier brings bronze, Limoges porcelain, and blown glass together in a striking installation inspired by the flowering trees of the Riviera.

From Lobby to Rooftop

The experience changes as the hotel rises through its six floors. Café Victoria creates a more social, residential atmosphere, while the Oria Spa introduces a warmer palette and gold details across its 650 square metres. At the top of the building, Taulissa restaurant and bar and the rooftop pool open the hotel towards the Mediterranean, replacing the intimacy of the lower interiors with panoramic views across Nice and the Baie des Anges.

A Contemporary Côte d’Azur

Le Victoria ultimately succeeds by treating Riviera style as a feeling rather than a decorative formula. Its interiors borrow from the glamour, architecture, light, and relaxed elegance of Nice, but reinterpret them through contemporary materials and a softer approach to luxury. The result is somewhere between a private residence and a modern seaside retreat, a hotel that feels connected to the mythology of the Côte d’Azur while giving that mythology a distinctly present day expression.
