The exterior of the new REI SoHo store, the Seattle-based retailer’s first store in New York, is shown before its grand opening on Dec. 2, 2012.

It was in November 2014 that the flagship restaurant CHEFS CLUB BY FOOD & WINE made its New York debut in the Historic Puck Building. The 120-seat restaurant, designed by celebrated architect David Rockwell and his firm Rockwell Group, is located on the ground floor of the Puck Building (275 Mulberry Street) in the Nolita neighborhood of Manhattan. Rockwell Group has selected simple and organic materials in neutral hues, such as walnut, raw concrete, leather, and blackened steel to complement the Puck Building’s historical elements, including cast-iron columns and exposed brick ceilings maintaining the building’s true nature, history and spirit. The aim of the design firm was to dissolve the boundaries between the chef and their guests whilst incorporating materials and design features that highlight the amazing, turn-of-the-century space.

If that were not enough, this amazing restaurant features installations curated by the Rockwell Group in collaboration with design and art authority such as Murray Moss, including permanent displays, as well as temporary ones, inspired by the creativity of the visiting chefs (we will soon tell you more about this special feature).

Murray Moss wanted to create, together with the Rockwell Group, visual moments which are elemental to cooking and dining – not as decor, but mise en scene which evoke a collective memory of the Art, past and present, of culinary expression. The restaurant includes a main dining room and a very exclusive intimate private dining room named the Studio, where guests can meet the visiting chefs on select dates or participate in cooking classes and other programmed activities. With its line-up of visiting chefs, CHEFS CLUB BY FOOD & WINE allows diners to try dishes by the most talented up-and-coming cooks in America as well as by celebrity chefs from around the world.

This allows them to invite the diners to experience through their work their typical products, tastes and cultures, and most of all allows these extraordinary chefs to accomplish their mission: to bring joy through food.
