The Inner House is an interior design company based in Berlin, Germany. For them, it doesn’t matter if the project is eccentric or elegant, minimalist or opulent. Each apartment is as individual and unique as the people who live in it. They believe every office should meet the requirements of the people who work there. Markus Altvater, the owner, is an interior designer that develops furnishing, lighting and colour concepts that match the client’s ideas and budget. Whether you want to re-arrange existing furniture in the best possible way, furnish yourself anew or completely rebuild.

The support of THE INNER HOUSE can range from initial design consultation to a full-service package. In the latter, they take care of the entire planning, budgeting and procurement as well as the coordination, control and monitoring of all suppliers and trades. Since childhood, the designer’s passion has always been interesting and unique interior design. At 12, he redesigned his room for the first time, built columns and had a glazier make a custom-made mirror for himself. This passion has only grown over the years. By travelling. By multiple redesigns of his home. But also by supporting friends with the planning, renovation and equipment of their homes and workplaces.

After many years as a project manager in various industries, he decided to finally make the passion his profession. He studied interior design in London and took the plunge into self-employment, and THE INNER HOUSE was born. Since then he has been advising and accompanying the clients on one of the best tasks: To make their living and work environments more beautiful and more functional. And of course, the clients also benefit from his experience in project management and commercial expertise.

Apartment Berlin VI

On the 165 square meters, it provides for varied accents. Living and dining room, kitchen, bedroom, the home office as well as the retreats for guests and children of this apartment were comprehensively redesigned: THE INNER HOUSE developed a coherent colour concept as well as the lighting concept for the family home. Existing furniture pieces such as the solid oak dining table, the comfortable sofa and the fitted kitchen were harmoniously integrated into the concept and supplemented by numerous bespoke pieces.

Apartment Berlin V

Coherent colours and harmonious cosiness instead of cool, all-white rooms: THE INNER HOUSE designed a coordinated colour concept for this Wilhelmenian style Berlin apartment. While the kitchen is kept in light colours, warm earthy tones make the living room comfortable. The bedroom is dominated by a dark cosy blue.

Penthouse Sapphire

A bright and airy space that emphasizes modern architecture, rather than distracting from it. In this penthouse in Berlin Mitte, a colour concept of black-and-white and natural tones provides a calm background against which bold splashes of colour provide strong accents.

Apartment Berlin IV

A new design for a charming old Berlin apartment: THE INNER HOUSE created an elegant, colourful and harmonious master plan for this Kreuzberg property. The living room and bedroom now look inviting with their bold and well-balanced colours, which change the effect of the previously white rooms completely. In the living room family heirlooms are set in context with newly acquired furniture, the overall design makes the room appear cosier but also larger than before.

Apartment Berlin I

From what was once two separate rooms, a spacious living area has been created in this apartment in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. The installation of a double-wing provides space and lightness. The conversion follows a modern interpretation of the mid-century style. It can be seen in the colour scheme as well as in the furniture, which consists for the most part of vintage originals. In the course of the redesign, the previous wood chip wallpaper was scraped off, all walls were plastered, painted with mineral paints or wallpapered. In addition, the existing electrical installation was extended in order to meet the client’s needs.
