In order to break away from the chichés of what a luxury design entails, Patricia Bustos Studio created a bathroom design where neon dreams reign supreme. Metanoia is a “retreat”, a stairway to a utopian world where inner peace and connection with our environs are the true paths of conversion. CovetED brings you all about this amazing project, a temple for the body and soul, says Patricia.
Madrid-based Patricia Bustos Studio has unveiled Metanoia, a utopian bathroom design described by Patricia Bustos as a “temple for the body and soul”. The installation challenges the paradigms surrounding luxury design, smashing through clichés and stereotypes to create a deeply conceptual space.
It is all pretty wild, however, the visual drama is counterbalanced by its ability to evoke deep relaxation. Metanoia becomes a physical manifestation of what we imagine it would feel like to be a part of a drifting cloud. A super high tech, futuristic cloud, that is. There is a dreamlike, almost surreal quality to this bathroom design. Guests, while confronted with all the colour and shape of a kaleidoscope, are also strangely lulled into a sense of deep calm.
The chaotic zigzagging face of the entry walls represents the overstimulation experienced in the contemporary world. Metanoia, therefore, unfolds in a cave-like “retreat” which is completely constructed around the sensory experience. Patricia Bustos’ aim is that guests can fully immerse themselves in quiet contemplation away from the distractions of the outside world.
White fur-clad curving walls wrap around the interior like a warm hug. Glass prisms adorn the walls and guard the steps up to the shower, radiating the intense colour and glow of a burning orange sunset. The bathroom design is dotted with contradictions and complexities, which grouped together, generate an unexpected and joyful experience. There is a sense of balance, as moments of overwhelming colour are met with neutrality, and instances of boldness are paired back with simplicity.
