It’s a style with uniqueness and personality, a style that invokes the 50’s, the blue, yellow and orange, even bright red, a style that reminds us greatly of movie and fashion icons like James Dean, Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe. When it comes to mid-century style, most of its inspiration came from the lifestyle in the ’50s, easily seen in movies by Alfred Hitchcock, Kim Novak, Stanley Kubrick or Ingmar Bergman.

The colours, the furniture, the feelings, it’s all there and we can easily see this style come to life in the cinematography world. Leather or velvet sofas, bright colours such as red or orange, it all evokes an older time, a time of charm and beauty. In interior design, materials such as wood, brass, leather, and velvet are key to adding mid-century style into your home decor. You’ll find tons of gold, brown, navy blue and the typical orange and red are simply the best choices to add that touch of The Great Gatsby‘s luxury in your life.

Mid-century never disappoints so to add it into your home, nothing like a classic wooden armchair in leather, perfect for a living room, office or even a bedroom corner: the Hudson armchair. Essential Home is an innovative mid-century modern furniture brand that takes important historical and cinematographic references from the 1930s and 1960s and turns them into unique furnishing pieces. What started out as ‘Essentials’ in 2015, a furniture collection by the mid-century lighting brand DelightFULL, quickly grew to be one of the most elegant representations of mid-century modern design, thus creating a new name, and a new brand, Essential Home. “Soon we understood that this collection had a life of its own. Essential Home’ eclectic style inspired us to create more and more. We could no longer keep it inside doors,” said one of the designers involved in the creation of Essential Home. Essential Home is currently based in Porto, Portugal, but its alluring designs are present in the most important interior design centres around the world, including London, Paris and New York.
