Both Bemelmans Bar and Dowling’s at The Carlyle stand as icons of sophisticated culture and refined entertainment, each preserving a timeless charm and offering a memorable experience in the heart of New York City’s vibrant Upper East Side.
Live Jazz and Classic Atmosphere: The Allure of Bemelmans Bar
The timeless tale of the Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, unveils an enchanting narrative steeped in the heart of the Upper East Side. Ludwig Bemelmans, the artist behind the cherished Madeline series, transformed the bar into a wonderland adorned with his whimsical murals. His grand-scale paintings, portraying the beauty of Central Park across the seasons, were brought to life in the 1940s in a notable exchange with the hotel.
Since its establishment in 1947, Bemelmans Bar has resonated with the sounds of New York’s finest jazz pianists. The bar regularly hosts live performances, inviting acclaimed artists to entertain audiences with renditions from the Great American Songbook, setting the stage for delightful evenings seven days a week. The famed Madeline Tea, held on Saturdays in November and December, presents a delightful experience for families, serenaded by Tina de Varon, who sings from the Madeline Song Book. The occasion enchants children and parents alike, offering a taste of Madeline’s Children Buffet amid sing-a-long melodies.
