Emmanuel Babled, the Italian designer that fell in love with the Portuguese tiles is one of the bigger names of the glass industry in the world. Babled’s design approach is based on the idea that a good project is born through direct contact and physical presence in the territory of its production. Observing materials and techniques in their authentic surroundings, gaining a feeling for places and social conditions have become an important part of his work method. With a constant focus in art, technology and craftsmanship Babled and its studio bring the perfect mixing into the interior design world. And that is why covetED will bring you all about its latest pieces. Keep reading to understand why.
Born in France in 1967 and graduated in Industrial Design at the European Institute of Design in Milan, Emmanuel Babled, with Babled Design, creates artworks with the highest quality and experience in craftsmanship ability, by mixing ancient knowledge with the high performance of the new technology.
Sustainability in Interior Design
QUARK CORK by Babled Studio
For the 10th Aniversary of QUARK Editions, Emmanuel Babled unveils the Edition QUARK Cork – fully natural and sustainable pieces produced in Portugal. The project Quark continues to explore materials and production techniques to give birth to monolith tables.
The Quark series of low tables is an exploration of materials and production techniques that give rise to unique monolithic tables. The raw materials of cork and marble are combined with Plexiglas, bronze and copper, breaking away from the traditional Italian approach to craft and design. The precision of digital tools gives the tables an original organic shape, resulting in design functionality with a sculptural identity.
WHEN ART MEETS TECHNOLOGY
LIBRASTONE by Babled Studio
Librastone limited-edition low tables rest on a curved base, balancing on one point. Made in Italy in white Carrara marble or brown tobacco stone, Librastone’s point of gravity is manipulated through the use of algorithmic software that allows the tabletop to achieve a perfectly horizontal position. The project is customizable in different materials following the same gravity-based principle.
This is an example of how Emmanuel Babled combines new technology with traditional craft techniques to obtain unexpected, almost magical design pieces.
