Covet Edition magazine is pleased to present Glenn Pushelberg and George Yabu and their design firm. First of all, Yabu Pushelberg is an international design firm, with studios in Toronto and SoHo, New York, founded in 1980 by Glenn Pushelberg and George Yabu.

George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg met while studying interior design at Toronto’s Ryerson University. They went on to become partners, establishing Yabu Pushelberg in 1980. Now the multiple award-winning design firm, with offices in New York and Toronto, has become world renowned for its luxurious, richly textured hotel, restaurant, and retail projects which include The London Edition hotel and the Park Hyatt New York , which opened this month.

Completing soon is The Waldorf Astoria in Beijing and the Miami Edition. The pair have homes in Miami, Toronto and New York – a city which they particularly love for its inherently optimistic spirit.

The focus of Yabu Pushelberg is on the use of contemporary art in their projects, commissioning artists to create large-scale installations, including Toronto’s Dennis Linand Montrealer Pascale Girardin.

The Pushelberg studios redefine how the world sees and experiences the built environment. The work is designed collectively. The partnership of George and Glenn is peerless and their innate creative abilities have made them thought leaders in the design world. Dedicated to delivering the unexpected, they constantly shift visual paradigms with each completed project, the end result eliciting an emotional resonance in the user.

Yabu Pushelberg has designed the interiors for the Four Seasons in Toronto and Tokyo; the W Hotel, Times Square, New York; the St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco and Bal Harbour; the Viceroy Maldives Resort;the Edition Hotels & Las Alcobas, Mexico City.

Retail projects include Bergdorf Goodman, New York; Barneys New York; Louis Vuitton, Hong Kong;Lane Crawford Home, Hong Kong; Printemps, Paris; and Tiffany & Co. Ltd, Wall Street, New York.

The awards of Yabu Pushelberg

George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg received the Order of Canada for their contributions to design excellence internationally, in December, 2013. They were named by Town & Country magazine as two of the “101 People You Must Meet in 2011” and by Condé Nast Traveler magazine as the “Hot Interior Design Firm” of 2011, Platinum Circle Award, for their exceptional achievement in the hospitality industry, as well as the James Beard Foundation award for Excellence in Restaurant Design. In 2001, George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg were together named Designer of the Year by Contract Magazine.
