Inspirational Interior Designers: William McIntosh

CovetED would like to tell today about a designer William McIntosh, his work and some of his interior design projects.

William McIntosh was born in upstate New York and studied Interior Design at Pratt Institute in New York. After graduating in 1980 he worked for the noted Interior Design firms of Timothy MacDonald Incorporated and Bray-Schaible Design. William established his namesake firm in 1990. With a team of dedicated professionals including Architects, Designers, Artists, and Craftsmen, McIntosh continues to produce the thoughtful, intelligent and personal interiors that have established him among a solid, loyal and growing clientele.

In terms of design, the interiors by William McIntosh are individually conceived and meticulously crafted. Unique architectural and decorative solutions beautifully detailed and executed, each project emphasizes the integration of architecture and interior design. His work is at once familiar but also reveals surprises and new interpretations, embracing both the period and the modern.

Chelsea Loft

Located in a newer Chelsea development, this apartment suffered from cheap construction and bad detailing – however it had two beautiful terraces and great views. The apartment was completely reconstructed, levelling the floors, raising the ceilings, installing an entirely new kitchen and three bathrooms, including the master bath which was completely opened up to the bedroom with a custom half-frosted glass shower enclosure.

Kips Bay Showhouse

The room was a private retreat for a well travelled New Yorker. The furnishings included an antique Moroccan rug, a custom Chesterfield sofa, and a bronze framed desk with a pony-hair cover edged in wool.

Located in an extraordinary Jean Nouvel designed building in Soho, tailored apartment was answered with meticulous millwork insertions that gave the apartment a more substantial feeling and polished finish. The furnishings although more contemporary in line are upholstered in quiet gray wools and linens.
