Spanish by birth, and Italian by choice, Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain and studied architecture in Madrid before graduating from the Milan Politecnico in 1989. She is one of the most coveted interior designers in the world and the keywords for her work are rigour and emotion, innovation and mental comfort. She was mentored by some of the masters of Italian industrial design: Achille Castiglioni oversaw her graduate thesis, and Vico Magistretti, with whom she designed her first projects. She learned her craft in Italy and opened a studio in Milan in 2001, where she has developed a truly global enterprise. Some highlights from her career include her encounter with Maddalena de Padova (1990), her collaboration with Piero Lissoni (1996-2000), and her partnership with Patrizia Moroso (since 1998).

Her designs are unconventional, emphatic, and experimental, blending humanist sensibilities and technical expertise – qualities that also inform her work as an architect. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona is one of her many architectural projects.

She has received numerous accolades and awards over the years, and in 2011 she was awarded the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes and the Order of Isabella the Catholic by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

Missoni – Paris

Missoni new flagship store in Paris at 219 Rue Saint-HonorŽ. The boutique, boasting over 300 square metres spread over two floors. With two and nine tall display cases, inside, MissoniÕs tones and textures are applied in various ways to the materials Ð wood, Alicrite, metal and fabric Ð to create a unique space in which technology and tailoring merge. The outcome is a collage of stripes, zigzags and expanded motifs interpreted on walls and ceilings. The project maintains all the main features of the Milan flagship store, but is distinguished by unique details tied to the ‘Žsprit de Paris’: here greens and blues predominate in certain iconic elements such as the macro-zigzags on the walls, while other architectural aspects, such as the soft lines of the staircase, the rounded corners of the ceilings, the lighting trellises and the point de Hongrie parquet flooring, were inspired from the most classic French palaces and gardens.

Officine Panerai – Florence

In the hearth of Florence, just in front of the Duomo, the historical boutique of Officine Panerai is unique and characterized by typical elements. Walnut is used for panelled ceilings, watch showcases and tables. Besides being a element of the Florentine tradition, it also recalls the sea world, to which the brand has always been linked. Marble, used for the floor, and creating unexpected geometric drawings.

Santoni – New York

Typical elements of this concept are the metal suspended grids that give spatial illusion, the wooden boiseries with bronzed glass shelves and the luxury area for limited edition products. And for the first time a laboratory where a shoemaker will work shoes in front of the clients.

Gianvito Rossi – London

Gianvito Rossi Flagship store in London Mayfair, at 108 Mount Street. The shop is inside an existing space bound to the art authorities thus untouchable as far as inner space, furniture and shop window are concerned.
