Home lighting is quite a divergent notion that depends mostly on context. So a particular lighting setting may work in a place near the mountains but completely fail elsewhere. So every home is different. For this reason, there are some common lighting mistakes that many people make, and we are about to disclose how one can avoid such errors.

#1 Relying on Only One Light Source

One of the major problems is that most people only rely on one kind of light source. An excellent way to change things a bit is to fuse a good variety of floor and table lamps, thus warming up the place. Through layered lighting, the house gets a more intimate and cosy ambiance.

#2 Using Overhead Lighting That’s Too Bright

In reference to this issue, interior designer Barclay Butera, discloses that “there’s nothing worse than bright lights that make you feel like you’re onstage”. As an experienced creator in the matter, he advises the use of soft and dim white bulbs in every room, as he feels that “lighting shouldn’t wash down on you: It’s harsh and unflattering.”

#3 Going Overboard with Recessed Lighting

It does not give a flattering look if one uses excessive amounts of recessed lighting, as explained by the designer, Anthony Barratta, “limit overhead can lighting to functional areas such as bathrooms and laundry rooms — the light is too harsh and flat for your living areas”.

#4 Forgetting about Dimmers

For this one is better to quote eclectic-styled international designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, as he explains that “lighting is everything. It creates atmosphere, drama, and intrigue in a room. The easiest way to accomplish this is with a dimmer switch. I always use dimmers, even in the powder room!”.

#5 Light Switches Placed in the Wrong Place

The correct way to place a light switcher 36cm above the floor and about 1cm and a half to 2 so as to distance itself from any type of decorative pieces that may be displayed on the walls.
