This new collection by the Campana Brothers bares heavy inspiration from the Biblical stories, namely Noah’s Ark. As a matter of fact, these 13 pieces are called the Noah series and they seek to tell the worldwide known story through design. The main intention behind the conception of these furniture elements is to communicate the idea that the ark was the origin of all species.

This collection was first unveiled at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London, and this occasion marked the first time ever that Fernando and Humberto Campana ever introduced their work in a solo show in this establishment. According to the gallery:

“Hybridism explores the Campana Brothers’ sculptural experimentation and their foray into the artistic realm of personal expression and societal commentary”

Among these bespoke furniture elements, we can definitely highlight a bench that has a seat made from roughly woven thick strips of fabric and also a frame which is made up out of bronze and aluminium creatures. There’s the Pirarucu armchair, upholstered with the skin discarded by Amazonian fish, alike the Sereia Piraracu and the Pirarucu armchair. All of these are inspired by the myths of mermaids and other sea creatures.

The bronze pieces are also a strong presence in this group, like for example the Pirarucu buffet, which consists of a low cabinet made out of the bronze cast from pirarucu fish skin, and the incredible Noah wall table composed by bronze animal figures effectively arranged under the table surface, creating sole support for the base.

But the main highlight comes from the Noah bench which features animal details in a direct allusion to the Biblical tale. Regarding the bench Humberto Campana stated in declarations to Dezeen:

“It demonstrates the material mix as well as the hybrid understanding of history, leaving the observer with a surrealist aftertaste.”
