Cazú Zegers: The Mother of Poetry in Architecture

In CovetED, we want to tell you about Cazú Zegers, a Chilean architect that searches for answers through an expressive “narrative” architecture, relating to Chile’s landscape, traditions and territory. The vision of the company aims for a poetic approach, where the objective isn’t the “finished work”, but a “work in progress” with an expressive reflection about the way we behave in the territory.

The relation between poetry and architecture inspires her work, as the “latino” heritage does. The mission is to accept Latin American culture as a gift, embracing it and communicating with global paradigms.

PROJECTS

Tierra Patagonia Hotel
“The gesture of the building arises from the shapes drawn by the wind, a natural element characteristic of the area. The form seeks nt to break into the metaphysical landscape of the place, but to join. The image of the hotel is that of an ancient fossil of some prehistoric animal, stranded on the shore of the lake.”

K House
“The K letter house was born in a complex terrain, with a big steep and extremely beautiful at the same time, full of Mediterranean weather native vegetation. The strategy was to anchor the house to the big rocks present on the terrain, generating a “rock” pillar.”

Holly Spirit Chapel
“The church is the form of the community. It was an obligation to listen to the residents of San Geronimo, they wanted a church that was a temple, a nearby altar and wide corridors to talk, in a neighbourhood that lacks community spaces.”

Del Fuego House
“The fire, from the Latin focus is the home, the centre of the Mapuche ruca. Heat in movement, a symbol of the energy that shoots beyond the walls. Centripetally, like a spiral galaxy, persevere in itself, there is a fire in the galaxy, the galaxy is the entrance to the home.”

The architect’s cultural roots are evident and very well explored, we continue to prove that architecture is very well delivered. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did (it was a lot)!
