Best Design Projects: Hong Kong’s Dim Sum Restaurant by Linehouse ⇒ Dubbed as “John Anthony”, the following dim sum restaurant project in Hong Kong is inspired by the first Chinese man to be naturalized as a British citizen. The contemporary establishment was designed by Linehouse design who through the combination of architectural styles and materiality between east and west narrated the journey of Anthony, resulting in a British tea hall transformed into a Chinese canteen. Now, CovetED steps inside the marvellous interiors of this unique restaurant.

The architecture and interior design practice based in China used materials such as hand-glazed tiles, natural and racked renders, terracotta, hand dyed fabrics and hand woven wickers because they are the ones that best represent John Anthony’s journey. As soon as guests enter the restaurant, they are directed to a vertical staircase of white metal and backlit diffused glass, and then one gets to see an extraordinary design show featuring terracotta render walls with height arched ceilings in pink tones as well as a lime green terrazzo floor, just to name a few elements.
For the main dining hall, Linehouse gave their own interpretation of the industrial storehouses found in the Docklands. Verticality and lightness come together beautifully in this vaulted space that also gets a characteristic touch thanks to the exceptional use of colour, such as the dusty pink circular columns or the white metal arches.
In the dining hall, one can find numerous arched spaces that offer an intimate dining experience to guests. These arches are covered in handcrafted tiles in green and blue shades and also allow guests to have premium views of the kitchen as the action is taking place.
As a whole, Linehouse offered a retro nostalgia to the restaurant, guaranteeing that colonial details would be represented. This can be seen precisely in the timber bar, the remarkable furnishings as well as the gold and maroon floral fabrics. Other details that make this space quite memorable and a must-visit luxury design destination are the bespoke hammered copper lights, custom timber tube lights, unique wallpapers with vibrant patterns, a combination of plants, among others that provide a more personal touch to the restaurant.
