This wonderful project features an Art Deco theme and was designed by Christopher Kent. It is located inside the iconic Palmolive Building, which was completed in 1929. In order to respect that Art Deco style of the building, they followed an open-concept layout from the early 2000s. For all those reasons, CovetED Magazine invites you to be inspired by this wonderful and luxury interior design project.

# The living room

In the first place, Kent began to envision a European pied-à-terre infused with colour and texture. Then, the project gained shape. Inside the dusty pink living room, there is a mid-century sofa and two Art Deco poufs upholstered in damask-patterned jacquard. Next, the coffee table creates a feminine, nostalgia-tinged atmosphere.

Steps away, behind a set of double doors, you have the family room with a more masculine and energetic vibe. It features mossy green walls, bright artworks, and an oversized ottoman.

Elsewhere, there are deep reds (in the striped bergères used as dining chairs), moody teals (on the master bedroom walls and velvet bed), and even blazing fuchsias (on the custom kitchen cabinets). Considering that most of the furnishings are from the 1920s, Kent included a handful of antique and mid-century pieces to add nuance and refinement.

”When I enter the space, I feel as if I’ve been transported to Paris,” says the wife. “The textures, patterns, and colours, mixed with the ornate architectural details, evoke the sophistication of a hôtel particulier.”

In conclusion, Christopher Kent of Studio CAK designed this apartment in downtown Chicago—a second home for a retired couple from Indiana—to emulate the feeling of a Parisian pied-à-terre. The 2,200-square-foot unit is inside the city’s historic Palmolive Building, an Art Deco tower built in 1929. A masculine, and somewhat contemporary, atmosphere is seen in the family room, featuring mossy green hues and bright artworks. Flexform’s Long Island sectional pairs nicely with a custom ottoman covered in ultra-thick coyote fur. The rug, a hand-knotted bamboo silk design called Tidal, is by David Rockwell for The Rug Company.
