Vincent Van Duysen has a vision that results from an unbridled curiosity. His designs create an all-inclusive atmosphere in which he seamlessly interweaves architecture, interior design, and design objects. A vision to which he also stayed true when he was commissioned to convert the monastery of the former military hospital in Antwerp into a hotel. For Serax, he designed the Outdoor collection which includes a series of minimalist chairs that effortlessly link the history of the environment to a modern interpretation.

All chairs from the ‘Outdoor’ collection of Vincent Van Duysen for Serax assume the archetypal
shapes of the monastery as that’s exactly the inspiration behind them. The goal here is to strip them down to its essence while giving them contemporary proportions. The slightly wider seat and backrest ensure optimum comfort, and you can choose between the black or the grey-green versions. The aluminium which they are made of is weatherproof, allowing the chairs to be used both indoors and outdoors.

his own unique way; this lounge chair design is just another proof of that. If you are wondering about the inspiration behind these Vincent Van Duysen chairs for Serax, the answer is simple – they originate from the simple monastic life of the previous century, but the proportions and small details belong to the present. The interior architect has mounted additional supports on the armrests, and the seat and back are slightly curved so that they perfectly follow the outline of your body. They are also made of weatherproof aluminium that can be used both indoors or outdoors. The colours are neutral and fitting to almost any room; black or grey-green.

should be perfectly blended with its surroundings.

In this outdoor collection for Serax, Vincent Van Duysen does exactly that. – The minimalist aluminium table which comes either in black or grey-green powder coating has a strong, yet pure design: a frame with slim, tubular legs, and a straight rectangular tabletop.

Here the aim was to keep the design completely free from unnecessary details, or “loud” tones. – When covered with colourful dishes, this design comes to life, as the contrast creates a rather pleasant and harmonious atmosphere.
