When Porada first met Stefano Bigi, he was a young French designer at the beginning of his career. He presented a project aesthetically powerful but also surely not easy to be produced: a wooden base in solid wood, all curved to create a sort of sculpture. The company believed in the project, tried the best to create it and succeeded. Infinity was initially born as a coffee table and became later, as its natural evolution, a dining table. Being now a best-seller, every day of the year an Infinity table is delivered to a home around the world, from Spain to Japan, from China to South Africa.

It was lemniscate – the infinity symbol, that gave the idea of a table base consisting of interlocking serpentines of wood, seamlessly connected together in an artistic expression. Whilst the design immediately got the approval of the Porada team, it was the function that took months to develop – from achieving the perfect balance of form for the table’s stability and easy adjustments between small and large table tops to the craftsmanship that’s gone into creating shapes of individual bends and then masterly bringing them together.

“Design for me is the infinite, exasperated research towards the right balance between aesthetics and comfort, form and function,” says Stefano Bigi, the designer. “I try to create emotion. I do not intend to create pieces for museum collections, my furniture is made to live with its owners. My work with Porada keeps being a fertile, beautiful dialogue between my idea of design and their incredible manufacturing experience that make my pieces alive. After ten years of success, when you talk about Porada you immediately visualize this iconic table, Infinity.”

Each Infinity table is composed of twelve wooden elements. Each element is crafted using the wood lathe, then put together – using the “finger joints” method – by hand by Porada’s expert craftsmen, in the company’s workshop in Brianza – the cradle of XXth century European furniture design.

The Infinity table bases are made in much-prized Canaletta walnut and ash – Porada’s signature woods. Walnut is an extremely attractive timber, which is dense, tight-grained and polishes to a very smooth finish. The base is fixed on metal discs, with a choice of table top finishes in a choice of tempered glass, metals and matt lacquer surfaces.
