The Los Angeles studio-based Mini Inno, pulled from their best inner inspiration to make a mid-century home renovation in Joshua Tree National Park, turning it into a stunning holiday home. The interior design company added a Japanese-style tea room to the residence, completely transforming its ranch-style property built in the mid-60s in Southern California. The place was baptized has “Villa Kuro” and you sure want to discover more alongside CovetED!
From the Japanese concept of seeing beauty in imperfection, the dark exterior design of the house contrasts with the pale interiors. At the same time, wooden, ceramic and woven details are used to create a time-worn and natural feel. “Nothing lasts and nothing is perfect; with age, you find patina and character, a sort of deep beauty that is lost in shiny new objects,” pointed the studio. “The design concept for Villa Kuro is inspired by nature and wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy about finding beauty in imperfection and embracing it.”
The room can and should be used for meditation as well, and it is decorated with a low coffee table and woven floor cushions. Sliding glass doors were added by Mini Inno so that the entry of light was allowed. The whole atmosphere is very welcoming and invites its guests to stay.
Villa Kura has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and possesses 185 square meters in total. For its characteristic rustic aesthetic, wood beams run along the ceilings in the open-plan kitchen and living room. In the kitchen, to keep its overall shape, the counters have creamy, textured tops and bentwood barstools. All the present harmony is undeniable.
“Creating a serene and unique space was one of our goals; since it is intended to be a vacation home, we want you to feel relaxed right when you walk in.”
The outdoor areas add a feeling of freedom to the property. As a whole, it also includes a covered patio with a dining table, a pebbled garden, a courtyard and a place with lounge chairs, a jacuzzi and an outdoor shower, not forgetting to mention the carefully worked detail throughout the house.
We hope that the ideology of work explored by Mini Inno could inspire you as much as it inspired us.
