Have you ever imagined being connected to AI with crystals? That was one of the three winning projects. The Japanese technologist Yosuke Ushigome says his primary interests are “centered in emerging technologies”, so he chose that way to be recognized as one of the Designers of the Future.

Yosuke explored crystal technology as a new way for smart home technology. In this design, the emotional quality of crystals will allow for a better human-machine communication, instead of just having a voice technology.

Study O Portable also has integrated crystals into smart technologies. The project of Tetsuo Mukai used the crystal technology of Swarovski to conceive colour and light gradient surfaces and it was based on the burred sense of colour that can be usually found in nature. Objects like screens, tables and lighting fixtures can benefit from this astonishing surfaces.

Frank Kolkman’s submission “Dream Machine”, synchronizes alpha and theta brainwaves with Swarovski crystals, creating an immersive light and sound experience. This experience fuses the potential of crystals with the possibilities of neurobiology, neuropsychology, and psycho-activation techniques.

Under the brief “Can crystal innovations make the way we live our lives smarter, more interactive, sustainable, immersive and accessible?”, designers were challenged to find a way to integrate crystals into smart technologies, including psycho-activation techniques, touch crystal technology, and energy crystal technology. The three winning projects will be exposed at Design Miami/ Basel from June 12-17, 2018.
