Maison et Objet 2018: Selection by Javier Gomez – Javier Gomez was one of the 6 winners of the Rising Talent Awards for Maison et Objet Americas in 2016. Based in New York City, he is a highly skilled artist and design specialist with over 10 years of experience in the field. What distinguishes him from others in his field of expertise is that he seeks to uncover the subtle beauty of coincidence and anomaly found in nature and architecture. He has since created his own aesthetic observing organic objects as well as the architectural details of the world’s greatest cities, translating these observations into bold, colour-centric abstract works using sacred geometry as the inspiration for both, his artwork and designs. This year, he returned to Maison et Objet 2018 as a guest to make his selection of the best design pieces one could find among the many brands included in the event.

Javier Gomez concept is based on taking his iconic works of art from the gallery to your home and creating, as Javier calls it, “Functional Art”, transforming the design industry with this unique style of an eclectic soulful vibe with a sophistication true to the pioneered artist. All of these transposed into JG Home living, a collection of furniture, furnishings, luxury bedding, limited edition photographs, rugs and home accessories. Since been a Rising Talent at Maison & Objet, Javier has collaborations with companies in the U.S. and Europe, such as Mr. North, Fenablel, Sentta, Collection Alexandra, AER Textiles and Amalia Home Collection. Furthermore, Javier’s list of high-profile clientele include brands such as Fendi Casa, Bvlgari, Roche-Bobois or Cassina. And for the Maison et Objet selection, he was also quite eclectic, choosing from chairs and lamps to textiles and sofas.
Inspired by the most famous occasional designs, the Perry Dining Chair by Covet House features a body structure produced in solid walnut wood, which makes it a durable and solid chair. Both the seat and the back cushions are upholstered in leather, evoking a sober look that contrasts with metal shoes on its legs, made of polished brass. A midcentury masterpiece and a homage to the modern living era.
Like a graceful, fine and timeless flower of light, the Pierre Cabrera Tulip Lamp, an HI-MACS tulip-shaped lamp, enhances emotion, technology and high-end materials. The beauty and grace of the tulip have made this flower a symbol of sincere and powerful love. The English word “tulip” stems from Ottoman Turkish, meaning “muslin, gauze” and also “turban.” This flower inspired Pierre Cabrera to create Tulip with the ultimate aim of offering a warm and intimate atmosphere through soft and indirect lighting.

The Salinas Series by Amalia Home Collection draws its influence from the sea salt flats of central Portugal. Crisp whites and neutral tones are found throughout the landscape and create the perfect pallet for your bedroom. Years of tradition and craftsmanship have led to the creation of the softest and most luxurious linens made in the finest Portuguese mills.
Based on a classic daybed from Scandinavian 50’s style, Mr. North Megingjörð respects joinery and upholstery traditions, while providing a dash of modernity in its own succinct and simple way. Its seat is made of a base frame with rounded profiles and round legs fastened to the frame. The moulded veneer gives a good flexibility and resembles more like a chair than a sofa. The pillows are added to the back frame and hover just above the seat, creating a light visual look for the sofa. On the other hand, it’s also possible to place loose cushions up against the frame, allowing to customize the comfort level and softness, giving it your own style. This beautiful sofa and daybed brings a natural Scandinavian elegance to your home. It’s carried out on a CNC milling machine combined with the traditional woodworking techniques of Mr. North’s skilled craftsmen.
The selection of Javier Gomez also includes the Cathy Astolfi Bol “Coquillage”, the Studio Sol Leccia Tabouret “Rio”, the Serip Pahtleaf Collection, the Ginger Brown CH Circini and the Lucas & Lucas Candle Holder. Don’t miss these design pieces and much more at Maison et Objet 2018, from 19 to 23 January at Paris Nord Villepinte.
