Design Indaba inspires and empowers people to create a better future through design and creativity. The brand has become a respected institution on the global creative landscape, based on the foundation of its annual festival that has attracted and showcased the world’s brightest talent. Established in 1995 with its globally acclaimed Design Indaba Conference, the Design Indaba brand has evolved into a multidisciplinary platform that champions all of the creative sectors. The annual festival in Cape Town now also includes the highly popular Emerging Creatives programme, Most Beautiful Object in South Africa, Design Indaba FilmFest, Music Circuit, multiple Simulcast versions of the conference in cities around South Africa, and other special events.

Largely funded by the Design Indaba Trust and independent sponsorships, Design Indaba Do Tank consists of projects and initiatives designed for the greater good. These include the Your Street Challenge, the 10×10 Low-Cost Housing Project, DesignER+, the education resource Making a Difference through Design and Design Indaba Expo initiatives. It’s all about leveraging the power of design to help fuel the creative economy and improve life for real people.

Known as the highlight of the creative calendar, the Design Indaba Conference brings together the people using design and innovation to create a better world. More than a talk shop, it’s an immersive experience that includes not only a series of design talks by creative industry heavyweights but also live music, performance and theatre, fashion shows, product launches, dance and surprise appearances by creative industry leaders. From 22 to 23 February, Design Indaba Festival 2018 presents a celebration of sound and sight, an inner-city festival immersed with music, performance and exhibitions at the Artscape Piazza. Extending the experience to include Nightscape, the event has been curated with an unexpected selection of music, performance art, installations, exhibitions, gourmet street food and film to create an inimitable sensorial experience.

One other important highlight will be the presence of trend guru Li Edelkoort, who will present her annual forecast on upcoming creative trends at LISOF – Fashion Design School and Retail Education Institute (19 February) and at Artscape (24 February).
