Biennal Interieur 2016 – The 25th Silver Edition

Biennal Interieur 2016, the must-see design event since 1968 with a hybrid mix of commerce and culture, is now on! And this year with a very special 25^th Silver Edition.

The Biennale Interieur is a non-profit organisation acting in the field of design, product development and innovation. It was founded in 1967, in Kortrijk (Belgium), to put contemporary design for the home and interior innovations on display for a general public and not only for professionals, as with most other fairs.

They didn’t want to be like other furniture shows, which offered a mixture of old, new, kitsch and design. The organisation wanted its Biennale only to promote the latest contemporary forms and creativity in interior design.

The initiators’ ultimate goal was not pure aesthetics or commercial considerations, but to encourage a broad public debate, that might lead to the design discipline contributing towards a better world. They dreamed of creating a space and an atmosphere that defy the traditional layouts and stage designs.

The uniqueness of the concept and the increase in international outreach, turnover, number of visitors, number of exhibitors and world-renowned design brands, press articles etc., show that there was a real need for an innovative model for design as a cultural and commercial entity.

You may visit Biennal Interieur 2016 from 14 to 23 October in Kortrijk Xpo and discover 6 specially created INTERIORS. These unique installations were conceived by leading designers, artists and curators with the focus in ‘Silver Lining – INTERIORS’, which is the cultural programme of the Biennale INTERIEUR 2016 and will surely make a visit very much worthwhile.

According to tradition, the hosts and hostesses at the INTERIEUR biennales are dressed out in outstandingly original uniforms. Since the 2016 event is the Biennale’s silver edition, this anniversary requires a truly festive outfit. The Belgian house Ann Demeulemeester provides the silver touch this year, in order to ensure that the hosts and hostesses stand out from the Interieur crowds.
