The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards 2016, recognizing excellence in television, was presented September 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel was the evening’s host of the night of surprises with a slew of first-time winners and upsets across multiple categories.

HBO’s Game Of Thrones is making history with three wins, including a repeat as Best Drama Series, giving it the most Emmys ever for a scripted series. Its network stablemate Veep also repeated, taking Best Comedy Series for a second year while its star Julia Louis-Dreyfus won for a record-tying fifth time in a row. The show’s total number of awards stands at 38, which means it has beaten Frasier’s previous record of 37.
