Kartell

Yesterday at Salone del Mobile Kartell presented their new project ‘AI’, a chair produced by artificial intelligence.

If you missed this event but are still at Salone del Mobile, make sure to pop by prestigious halls of the Appartamento dei Principi in Milan’s Palazzo Reale where Kartell is celebrating its seventieth anniversary with “The art side of Kartell”, an exhibition conceived by Ferruccio Laviani, the event’s co-curator alongside Rita Selvaggio. – The exhibition will be open to the public from 10 April to 12 May 2019 and is promoted by the Comune di Milano-Cultura, Palazzo Reale and Kartell.

Throughout its history, Kartell, a leading company in the world of “living culture”, has focused its attention on the topic of research, innovation, and the evolutionary processes of technology. Quality, design and industrial products have distinguished its progress
over time, starting from functional objects for domestic use which revolutionised the history of post-WWII design, through to the creation of the most sophisticated products which team manufacturing technology with innovative materials.

The ongoing dialogue between art and design that the brand has nurtured over its 70 years becomes the narrative for an exhibition that winds through eleven rooms, each characterised by an identity acquired from the combination of memory and contemporary.

With the aid of a series of visual and semantic associations, the intensive exhibition route of “The art side of Kartell” is laid out like a drama play packed with multiple information which, beyond the conventional memory of the objects on exhibit, creates non-chronological hybrid and multifarious narratives.

Seventy years after its foundation, Caimi Brevetti maintains unaltered its passion for R&D, its desire to innovate and discover new roads, and its natural propensity to design and development.

Faithfully upholding these values has allowed the company to build a history studded with success and prestigious international awards.

Laminam

‘IN-SIDE’ is the first series of ceramic slabs offering material continuity between body and surface.

In this project natural raw materials, purified by water, are given a new lease of life in the form of a hard-wearing surface, which stretches up to 1620x3240mm with the appearance of genuine natural stone.

This product is also an absolute novelty amid ceramic slab manufacturers from a technological perspective too, further confirming the brand’s innovative spirit which is always open to new paths to follow.

Lastly, IN-SIDE is based on the mixture of natural raw materials with a variable grain size which results in a textured blend, typical of natural stones.

Kettal

VDL Research House – The outdoor furniture company presents a reissue of the ‘DVL House’ designed by the master of architecture, Richard Neutra, in 1963

“I was convinced that high-density design could succeed in a fully human way, and I saw my new house as a concrete pilot project. I wanted to demonstrate that human beings, brought together in close proximity, can be accommodated in very satisfying circumstances, taking in that precious amenity called privacy. So armed with my memories and convictions, and in direct contrast to the sense-inimical mien of my boyhood surroundings, I planted three families on my ordinary 60-by-70-foot lot, next to Silver Lake. And I was able to arrange things in such a way as to embellish our lives with abundant plantings and bracing vistas. One felt a great sense of freedom in the VDL, as everything was carefully planned to avoid interference between the various zones of the house, and there were many options for getting off by oneself.”  – Richard Neutra.

The setting chosen to present this precious tribute has been the Salon of Milan, where they have also shown their latest collections designed by Patricia Urquiola, Doshi Levien, Rodolfo Dordoni, Naoto Fukasawa and Konstantin Grcic.

Molteni

Molteni&C is at the fair with a stand inspired by Mid-Century architecture, designed by the Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen, the company’s Creative Director and Corporate Image Curator.

‘Mid-Century’ – The 2019 concept is inspired by the houses of the great architects of the mid 20th century. The straight pure wall and ceiling volumes divide and emphasize the different spaces.

These shifting volumes never touch each other, creating horizontal and vertical visual filters. The result is a bright and open architecture, with large green islands inspired by Californian gardens.

The Molteni&C home also hosts a spacious kitchen with a central island, and an artist’s studio, built around an open green void. The studio is visually and physically connected with the rooftop terrace on the upper door which is accessible via the open staircase, which is part of the library, the heart of the Molteni&C home. – The mix of different materials such as walnut, travertine stone and palladiana ooring gives a strong character to each individual space.

Viccarbe

For another year, Viccarbe has selected the renowned Salone del Mobile to present its most recent designs. As a new feature, we have changed our location this year, moving to the exclusive hall 20.

On this occasion, the stand showcases itself as a refreshing oasis within the fair, designed under the leitmotif Mediterranean Collaboration. A perfect stage for the brand’s newest additions fully conceptualized under the stamp of a balanced, warm, and friendly design.

The project includes – the Quadra Chair by Mario Ferrarini; the Copa Chair by Ramos-Bassols Maarten; and the Plastic Chair by Víctor Carrasco.

MDF Italia

The stage conceived to highlight the MDF Italia Novelties 2019 is a space balancing between material and immaterial, where drawn walls and real walls define a world of shapes, whose materiality is still quite ethereal and abstract.

Two types of space levels co-exist in this set-up.- The first level lets you perceive the space in which objects are placed and evokes scenarios; while the second one is more descriptive and museum-like, and lets the objects show off in their pure essence.

These are hints of domestic interiors and passing places, where objects show a hybrid identity, an intermediate stage still in the field of thoughts and drawn lines.
