When you enter a luxury retail store, interiors are an integral part of the overall shopping experience. Beautiful architecture, the finest materials and alluring lighting are cleverly utilized to draw us into these spaces, creating a sartorial haven that we won’t want to leave. From India Mahdavi’s bubblegum pink boutique for REDValentino to Giles & Boissier’s moody Moncler makeover, feel good about getting back to retail therapy (and boosting the economy to boot) with these dreamy luxury retail designs. Sit down and enjoy CovetED’s latest article.
India Mahdavi puts her magical spin on REDValentino’s Sloane Street store. The boundary-pushing designer sketch-colours the space with her signature soft pink hues, which are perfectly paired with shades of mustard yellow and white.
Working in collaboration with the brand’s creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Mahdavi set out to create a fun, romantic setting for the brand’s ready-to-wear pieces and accessories. Shining brass framework doubles up as luxe accents and functional railings; velvet panels add texture from floor to ceiling; round mirrors introduce geometric simplicity. Of all the design elements to be found inside the luxury retail store, it’s Madhavi’s iconic Charlotte chair – with its deliciously plumped-up shape – that takes the limelight.
Parisian duo Gilles & Boissier have become the official interior designers for luxury ski and après-ski label Moncler. Paris, Beijing, Munich, Milan – the studio has put its stamp on the brand’s luxury retail stores across the world, mixing its refined aesthetic in with Moncler’s penchant for quality, heritage and, of course, sumptuous materials that excel in high-altitude conditions.
Dark wood walls and floors create a sophisticated backdrop for the brand’s practical yet fashion-focussed clothing and accessories. Marble elements and furry throws and furniture amp up the luxury factor, while styled mannequins punctuate the space, showcasing how to wear the brand’s pieces from top to toe.
Celebrating pared-back aesthetics and excess at once, the interiors combine raw materials and statement decorative elements. A solid oak floor brings the graphic pattern to the upper-level womenswear space, while golden railings add a touch of Art Deco opulence. Down the terrazzo staircase, the menswear area continues the mix of metallic grey tones in a more modernist setting.
Family-run Portuguese studio Casa do Passadiço has been commissioned to design the interiors of multiple Aquazzura stores. From the luxury shoe label’s Florence flagship to boutiques in London, Moscow and Milan, the sisters of Casa do Passadiço – Cláudia and Catarina Soares Pereira – have given each luxury retail store its own bold identity, referencing the mood of the cities they’re situated in.
The Florence boutique, set in the Palazzo Corsini near the Ponte Vecchio, tastefully makes the most of its incredible 17th-century shell. Traditional frescoes and wall panelling are complemented by the studio’s contemporary elegant design choices. Curving green velvet sofas, sleek shelving units and statement wallpaper are proof that the new and the old do belong together.
David Collins Studio is the creative force behind the first flagship boutique for luxury men’s shoe brand Louis Leeman. Situated on Madison Avenue, the store – designed in collaboration with brand founder Louis Leeman and stylist Erica Pelosini – reimagines a drawing-room in a 19th-century Parisian apartment.
Plush velvet seating in rich amethyst and emerald tones and a grand fireplace make you feel right at home. Luxurious sculptural additions (think obelisk-inspired table lamps) and a golden Christophe Delcourt coffee table bring an artistic edge. Carefully arranged shelving for the shoes also serves as a striking wall feature.
