COVETED EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH BROWN DAVIS

Covet exclusive interview with Brown Davis. In 1994, Todd Davis and Rob Brown joined their shared passion for classic architecture, discerning environments, and extraordinary craftsmanship to create Brown Davis Architecture & Interiors.  Creative and bespoke architecture is the foundation of each project whether modern, transitional or traditional. Comfort is an indispensable priority.  Texture, light and pattern are orchestrated for enduring warmth and harmony. Working closely with master artisans, Brown Davis designs bespoke furnishings, perfectly scaled for size and function.

What they love the most about their work is the creative process.  Their work includes designing the architecture, furnishings, lighting and almost every aspect of a project.  “Each project is unique and at the start of a project, there are so many possibilities to explore. “ – they said. The most challenging time of their careers has been the timeline of covid shutting most everything down to the immediate starting back of multiple projects.  It was a roller coaster ride.

The shortages of products difficulties of shipping, inflation and general industry chaos were nothing like we have ever seen in the past. “No one ever achieves everything one wants in life.  Life is constantly changing bringing both good things and challenges.  As we progress through life our wants may change and change is good.” – they said. For them, the fulfilling part of a project is generally on installation day.  There is so much hard work and detail that goes into architecture, interior, lighting and furniture design.  Seeing everything come together is very rewarding.

Projects

They have always relied on being published to feature their work.  Prior to the internet different magazines had long term editors and they could establish long term relationships.  In their opinion, the internet has changed the publishing industry, print magazines have shrunk and editors don’t stay at magazines as long as they once did.

“It is still important to be published but platforms such as Instagram give us much more power to feature our work. At the moment they are working on a variety of architecture and interior design projects that range from modern to the Mediterranean.  Each project is inspired by the style the client is looking for, the geographic location and the clients’ lifestyle.  We are constantly inspired by other architects, designers, artists, etc….  There is so much creativity in the industry.” – they said. Brown Davis’ motto is Comfort is the Greatest Luxury.  They believe that there is a trend to very comfortable living environments.  Whether it be traditional or modern, a home should be comfortable and not off-putting.

Their clients are always involved in the project.  Whether it is architecture or interiors their projects are bespoke to the client and they are well aware of what is being designed for them. Their experience working with Covet House was very positive,  they recently completed a home that featured a highly polished stainless steel staircase.  Brown Davis are always proud of creating a design that has not been done before.

To finalise

Brown Davis have a furniture line with Keith Fritz Fine Furniture.  The craftsmanship and finishes are exquisite.  The furnishing is hand made in Indiana by tradespeople that have been in the woodworking industry for generations.  Within the United States, the company maintains a fleet of trucks and hand delivers all of its furnishings.  They are also available for in-home touch-ups.  In their opinion, technology will continue to change the design at home and office.  It will be easier to create computer visualizations of architecture during the design process and to create furnishing designs with modelling technology and 3D printing.  They believe they will see more and more innovative ways to use materials.  With the aid of virtual reality, in-home shopping will become a more realistic experience.  “As we have seen so far these technologies will unleash more and more creativity in the industry.  We will also continue to be inspired by artists and designers from all over the world.” –  they said.
