“Approachable, warm and uplifting”
Originally subdivided into student accommodation, the brief was to transform this Grade I- listed Georgian townhouse and garden into a comfortable family home. The challenge was to make this grand, five-storey building feel approachable, warm and uplifting. We collaborated with the client, the architect and numerous craftspeople to bring back original features and details that had been removed or lost over time. Howe London provided many of the antique and bespoke pieces in the house – each chosen to compliment the spirit of the building and reflect the personality of the family who now lives here.
“A celebration of personal stories”
This distinguished Regency villa had been awkwardly split up into three flats. The key challenge was to weave the spaces back together in a way that honoured the original proportions of the property whilst making the best use of various clumsy extensions. The client wanted the property to feel that it had evolved organically over time, and also needed it to perfectly fit their modern family life. We designed architectural detailing that worked seamlessly with the original features and sourced furniture, fabrics and artworks – new and old – that celebrate the personal stories of each family member.
“A place for colourful celebrations”
Located in the heart of the charming town of Deal on the east Kent coast, The Rose is a former pub with a spirited past. The welcoming bar and restaurant and eight characterful bedrooms have been deliberately designed to feel not only relevant to the building but relevant to Deal. Where possible, original fixtures and fittings have been repaired rather than replaced. Unexpected colour combinations, rich textures and floral patterns and locally sourced mid-century furniture combine to create a destination for colourful celebrations.
“Re-energised for family living”
This generous Georgian country house has been completely re-energised for family living. On the ground floor, entranceways and connecting spaces are painted in vibrant blues and greens. Living spaces – and the vast garden room – are bathed in natural light and filled with soft furnishings and found pieces that have been arranged in the centre of each room to create a feeling of intimacy. Upstairs, soft greys, soothing pinks and pale blues are teamed with patterned textiles that have banished any sense of stuffiness from this handsome home.
“Timeless”
The owners of the 350-acre Beaverbrook Estate wanted The Garden House to be transformed from a characterless residential house into a five-star hotel, with all the latest creature comforts. It needed to satisfy the demands of its discerning guests, whilst also delivering the character and charm of a private home. Layering period detail with state of the art technology, mixing block colours with patterns and combining old furniture with new, the finished building feels elegant, comfortable and authentic. The bedrooms are romantic in feel, while the communal areas have a timeless appeal.
“Inspired, safe and connected”
Scape Living is the market leaders in providing high-quality studios and shared accommodation for today’s discerning students. By putting the community in the middle of the design philosophy, their concept is to make students feel inspired, safe and connected to each other during their student life. Working alongside Abe Rogers, we have helped with three Scape sites, creating a series of dynamic communal areas including live-work lounges, shared kitchens, gyms, cinema rooms and gardens, all of which successfully bring the company philosophy to life.
