Today CovetED presents a silhouette of one of the leading Hollywood interior designers – Madeline Stuart. Widely known for her authentic and original style, Madeline rarely creates interiors depicting the latest trends in design. Instead, she focuses on emphasizing the architecture and atmosphere of the place, as well as the characters of people inhabiting it. The result of this unique approach is timeless and harmonious spaces.
As it could be expected from when talking about Hollywood-based designers her clientele comes from the very top of society – the entertainment industry, finance, business. Focusing on architectural restoration and remodelling, Madeline Stuart & Associates has a very diverse project portfolio, with spaces ranging from a 1920’s Hollywood hacienda to a Fifth Avenue Manhattan apartment, to a Rocky Mountain retreat, and finally to commercial spaces.
Madeline Stuart is a leading member of the Los Angeles design community whose wide-ranging clientele comes from the entertainment industry and the world of business and finance. Equally at ease designing a 1920’s Hollywood hacienda, a Fifth Avenue Manhattan apartment or a Rocky Mountain retreat, Stuart stresses, above all else, the fundamental marriage of integrity and beauty. Her projects reflect a collaborative relationship between architecture and furniture, function and form, client and designer. The work of Madeline Stuart Associates is regularly featured in numerous national publications, and the firm has been distinguished by its inclusion on the AD100 – Architectural Digest’s prestigious list of the top 100 design & architecture firms. Since 2010, Elle Décor’s A-List has named Madeline one of the leading designers in the country.
Villa Uccelli is a classic Italianate residence designed by Marc Ferguson of Ferguson Shamamian Architects and was built in 2018. The interiors feature a mix of disparate influences and furnishings, including 18th-century Italian antiques, vintage pieces dating from the 30s, 40s, and 60s, along with furniture created by contemporary artisans.
Originally built in 1922, all but the front facade of Casa la Paz was completely demolished and remodelled. The interior architecture and detailing—including floors, ceilings, millwork, bathrooms, fireplaces, stone and tile work, and cabinetry was designed by MSA.
A circa 1930s Spanish Revival house with a history of famous owners, this residence has been reinvented by the current occupants over the past fifteen years. Originally designed with Monterey Colonial and 1920s Spanish revival pieces, the furnishings now present a more updated palette mixed with vintage elements and antiques.
The Cedric Gibbons / Dolores Del Rio house, an iconic Streamline Moderne masterpiece, underwent significant restoration along with a seamless addition to return the property to its glorified status as an architectural gem of Los Angeles.
Designed by Paul Williger, this ground-up project was a collaborative effort between architect and designer.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was presented when I joined architect Marc Appleton on this project. Our goal was to create a residence for clients who wanted display their incomparable art collection to its best advantage. Every design decision was made in deference to the extraordinary artwork that is a reflection of the clients and their passion for collecting.
