Situated in the centre of Barcelona, just a few steps away from the exclusive “Paseo de Gracia”, the historic Barrio Gotico and the famous Las Ramblas, the silhouette of the Hotel El Palace is unmistakable. The modernist stamp printed by the architect Eduard Ferrés I Puig in 1919 did not lose an iota of its elegance, which is reflected in its halls, rooms and on the facade. CovetED brings you all about this amazing centenary hotel that retains its prestige as one of the best hotels in Europe. Old school refinement and luxury permeates this classic five-star joint.

From the moment of the Coveted team arrival, we’re met by valet’s with top hats and escorted into a grand foyer with double staircase and odes of lush reds and gold trim.  The ‘Hall’, which serves as both lobby and bar, is a riot of Versailles-style ornate furniture, oriental vases, hand-painted wallpaper and gilt clocks, and the breakfast room, covered in winter, goes for a monochromatic elegance, with oversized iron street lamps, Greek statues and a small garden at one end.

Rooms are a mix of modern and classic design with plush carpet and delicate ivory floral felt walls. Lux amenities include pillow menus, comfy slippers and robes, bottled water, and a perfect turndown service. The best rooms are undoubtedly the themed suites. Here you’ll find elaborately designed named after Dalí, Josephine Baker, Maria Callas, Joan Miró and César Ritz.  Each room features individual touches – some from the namesakes themselves.

In the basement, where the coal was located, is the cocktail bar Bluesman, with an air of speakeasy where rock and jazz shows are offered every Thursday through Saturday nights, and in honour of 100 years, a happy hour is offered. Also, the paintings in this room were painted by Ronnie Wood.

Jardín de Diana

Continuing our private tour with the Hotel Manager, we discovered the wonderful Jardin Diana Rooftop, where the views are endless and most prominent is the Gothic Barcelona Cathedral. The giant space also has a koi pond, solarium, an intimate pergola with a statue of the Roman goddess Diana, and a herb garden that’s used by the hotel’s chefs.
