Matteo Brioni was a part of the FUGA flooring by Studio Irvine and realised by De Castelli. This unique flooring initiative can be best defined as a new variation for its TerraFrame project. The effect on this project is accomplished by is a mix of raw earth with added mineral binders and polymer resin. CovetED will be guiding you through the essentials of this unique visual wonder.

The name FUGA comes from the fact that this new tile design features a geometric element called Fuga (which in Italian refers to an “escape” or a gap/space between pavements). Being a new variation of the TerraFrame project, this flooring has the advantage of being able to have greater abrasion and water resistance.

Visually stunning, the FUGA flooring combines rigid elements with the raw essence of the earth. The elements have a lot of historical research making this into a real journey back in time reflecting the original Etruscan and Roman decorative floors. For this initiative, natural copper was chosen as the main material, seen that it changes its appearance with the passage of time.

“What is Matteo Brioni’s role in this initiative?”, you might be asking. This project was thought up by Marialaura Rossiello of Studio Irvine. According to Brioni’s page regarding this project “the theme is inclusion, that is to say, insert the rigid elements into the continuous surface of Matteo Brioni“.
