Designer of the Day: Samuel Amoia

After humble beginnings in the hospitality industry and a one-year apprenticeship with Stephen Sills, Samuel Amoia has emerged as one of New York City’s most promising interior and furniture designers. Having envisioned masterfully layered residences and five-star hotels from Malibu to Belize that embody a “rough glamour” approach, the Samuel Amoia Associates founder now tries his hand at model units for the Hayworth, a forthcoming Upper East Side development, where his self-taught sensibilities flourish with style and panache. In 2015 Amoia launched a groundbreaking furniture collection, AMOIA Studio which features a collaborative line of sculptural furniture and lighting made of natural materials. AMOIA Studio designed exclusive and limited edition pieces for DeLorenzo Gallery in NY, as well as commissions for Lauren Santo Domingo, Dior, Peter Marino, Moda Operandi, Stella Mc-Cartney, Calvin Klein, Dover Street Market, Soho House Berlin, Neiman Marcus, and The Store by Alex Eagle in London.

Amoia has been named By VOGUE magazine as “one of the Young Interior Designers to watch” and has most recently received the “Rising Talent” award by the prestigious Parisian Maison & Objet Fair. Amoia has recently designed several large scale ground-up California estates in Malibu and Del Mar overhauled gut renovations in prestigious NY buildings such as 520 Park Ave, 42 Crosby St, a historic loft on Wooster St, and The Atlantic Magazine Headquarters in NY. Also launching this year is the exclusive Itz’ana Hotel and Residences in Belize and several another high end residential and commercial projects. Currently, the firm is working on ground-up both residential and hotel projects in NYC, Palo Alto, Malibu, San Diego and the Catskills Region. Most exciting and recently Amoia has ventured into the hospitality world and is launching his own wellness and design-focused hotel brand nestled away on 130 acres in the mountains in the Catskills at the end of 2020.
