Design Within Reach is all about authentic modern design – past, present and future. Since their foundation in 1998 by Rob Forbes, they focus on making innovative works from iconic designers accessible for the first time. At the beginning, the founder Rob Forbes discovered that works of designers such as Eames, Le Corbusier and Saarinen were inaccessible for anyone who didn’t know the secret handshake or have the patience to wait months for delivery. They know there had to be a better way and there was. By giving people access to the best in authentic modern design, we helped put design within reach.

Jonas Sofa Collection (2016) | Designed by Jonas Wagell | DWR Exclusive
Working out of a studio in the Södermalm district of Stockholm, Jonas Wagell calls his pproach “generous minimalism.” “With this collection, my goal was to design a confident form that’s comfortable and has meticulous proportions,” says the designer. Made in Canada, this timeless collection has eased edges, arms with a gentle arc, plush cushions and elegant cast-aluminum legs in black or polished finish.
Outline Table Collection (2016) | Designed by Sylvain Willenz | DWR Exclusive
“While very simple, the Outline Table carries the subtle twist of an unusual oval profile,” says Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz. The oval-shaped steel frame appears to transform from thick to thin as a viewer’s vantage point changes, lending a pleasing and surprising dynamic appearance. Frame available in black or satin-finish stainless steel topped with solid Carrara or Nero Marquina marble.
Sculptura Collection (1956) | Designed by Russell Woodard for Woodard Furniture Company | DWR Exclusive
DWR CEO John Edelman grew up with Sculptura furniture. When he heard that the Woodard Company was bringing it back into production, DWR partnered with them on its return, much to the delight of Sculptura fans. Sculptura was added to the Cooper Hewitt’s permanent design collection in 1994. Made in USA, Sculptura is handcrafted of iron wire mesh that’s welded and molded to cradle the contours of the human form.
Sten Floor Lamp (2016) | Designed by Norm Architects | DWR Exclusive
This swivel-base cantilevered floor lamp is the work of Danish designers Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn. Sten provides fully dimmable overhead lighting for living or dining areas without the need for hardwired ceiling installation. Made in Italy, its matte-finish honed base consists of solid Carrara or Nero Marquina marble.
Rings LED Chandelier (2016) | Designed by Elish Warlop | DWR Exclusive
DWR discovered Elish Warlop at WantedDesign Launchpad during New York Design Week in 2014. We recognized there was something special about her work, so we commissioned her to design two lighting collections that embody a sculptural, art-like quality. Brass rings are milled with precision, then welded, finely polished and wire-brushed to highlight the metal’s natural beauty. At the tip of each fixed ring is a solid brass cuff holding a warm white (2700K) LED strip, the light of which produces a beautiful glow off the brass.

Magnify LED Chandelier (2016) | Designed by Elish Warlop | DWR Exclusive
Each glass shade is hand-blown into the desired shape, texture and thickness by artist Josh Gelfand, then precision-cut to snugly fit the solid brass cuff and sandblasted for an even distribution of light. Solid brass cuffs are line- and laser-cut with precision, then welded, finely polished and wire-brushed to highlight the metal’s natural beauty. Inside each solid brass cuff are fully dimmable, warm white (2700K) LED strips.
Pocket Table (2016) | Designed by Lee Mindel | DWR Exclusive
Like building blocks for storage, this table by designer Lee Mindel can be used singly or in multiples to create a large coffee table arrangement. This sleek design with perfectly mitered corners looks like a solid pedestal but offers the added benefit of two discreet drawers with vacuum closures. Pocket is Lee Mindel’s first project for DWR.
Jey Table (2016) | Designed by Francesco Rota
Working out of his studio in Milan, Francesco Rota designs furniture, lighting, showrooms, residential and commercial interiors and events. This sturdy table stands on a solid marble base with steel stem. Tabletop is made of super durable, self-healing Fenix laminate that is formed from the leftover material normally disposed of after cutting Fenix plates from other products. Rather than sending them to the landfill, Rota turns those pieces into something beautiful.
Tipi Tables (2016) | Designed by Raphael Fournier and Martin Endrizzi
Tipi is a nomadic side table, playful and precise. Its lightness and comfortable handle allow you to bring it along as you move from room to room. Removable Carrara marble, oak or walnut top can be lifted off the recycled steel base to use as a tray. Layer tables of two different heights for a playful arrangement.
Here Comes the Sun Pendant (1969) | Designed by Bertrand Balas | DWR Exclusive
This pendant was designed by French architect Bertrand Balas. When turned on, it’s transformed into a magical object that looks like the sun or moon rising. Its name is a nod to George Harrison’s song for the Beatles, for which he wrote, “Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter. / Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here. / Here comes the sun.”
