A Fusion Of Tradition And Renewal With Gamfratesi

GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it.

From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi aims to create furniture that illustrates the process and the techniques that created it, and which reflect a persistent exploration of the diverse border zone between harmony and disharmony. The studio is based in Copenhagen.

Harlan & Holden Dining

Harlan & Holden is located in front of one of the most popolar mall in Manila, Rockwell in the Philippines. It is an area in the development with pedestrian traffic between skyscrapers offices and the mall. This small outdoor green space comes to life thanks to the creation of the cafe as an area on the street level. The idea was to take as inspiration a glasshouse to emphasize the relationship with the outer space and maintain contact with tropic nature that was already present in the area, breaking the boundaries between indoor and outdoor.

Copenhague

Copenhague restaurant is characterized by an intense and dark blue atmosphere. A combination of dark blue leather, textiles and deep blue curtains and tablecloths, are selected to bring the visitors in an intimate atmosphere. As the only touch of white, a series of white porcelain plates made of special edition in collaboration with Royal Copenhagen and GamFratesi. The white color will bring attention to a culinary experience in a sharp contrast between the refined Danish cuisine and the intense atmosphere.

Flora Danica

Flora Danica is a contemporary Danish brasserie, with the sophistication of French influences. An atmosphere characterized by the green color, used for both different fabrics and natural stone. The palette is supplemented by tones of gray, and furniture with black and brass details. A Herringbone marble floor as combination of carrara and green, graphically distinguishes the entire project and bring attention to the main bar area. The other part of the restaurant is more so and intimate, with floor carpet and velvet sofas. Flora Danica is the original name of the restaurant that has been kept. GamFratesi use the traditional Flora Danica drawings in a contemporary way designing a geometric frame structure on the walls and including the drawings as a large botanical display.

Verandah

Verandah is an Indian restaurant in the Customs House in Copenhagen, a building from the 1930s. For the interior GamFratesi wanted to create an Indian restaurant with an atmosphere heavily inspired by that era, because in Denmark, Indian cuisine is often associated with fast food. The interior design is also a play on indoor versus outdoor. To achieve this, they added a podium made of Dinesen floorboards that evokes the feeling of being on a veranda. Of course, using outdoor furniture for this part of the restaurant helped, as did incorporating trees with fragrant flowers.
