Paris+ par Art Basel 2023 | A Global Art Extravaganza in the City of Light

October 20, 2023

As the world turns its attention to the vibrant city of Paris, the second edition of Paris+ par Art Basel is set to captivate art enthusiasts from October 20 to 22, 2023. With an impressive lineup of 154 premier galleries from 33 countries and territories, this event promises a visual and intellectual journey like no other.

A Global Showcase of Art

Paris+ par Art Basel continues to be the epicenter of global art, where art from diverse corners of the world converges in the City of Lights. The event is a testimony to the enduring power of art in transcending borders and uniting people through creativity.

These 154 galleries are set to showcase an array of engaging solo, duo, and group presentations by artists, ranging from iconic 20th-century masters to emerging talents. With 60 galleries having their exhibition space in France, it’s not just an international affair but also a celebration of French artistry.

Returning Luminaries

Last year’s edition brought together an impressive array of galleries, many of which are returning for the second edition. Galerie 1900-2000 from Paris is showcasing the work of historical Surrealist representatives. Applicat-Prazan, another Parisian gallery, presents a solo booth featuring rare works by French modernist painter Jean Hélion. A Gentil Carioca from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo will have a duo presentation, highlighting works by Brazilian Indigenous artist Denilson Baniwa and Afro-Brazilian painter Arjan Martins. These are just a few examples of the engaging presentations that await visitors.

Galeries Émergentes: Nurturing Emerging Talents

The Galeries Émergentes sector, dedicated to solo presentations by emerging galleries, also welcomes back participants. LC Queisser from Tbilisi is showcasing small-scale works by septuagenarian artist Elene Chantladze. Marfa’ from Beirut is presenting a project by Lebanese photographer Mohamad Abdouni, exploring the lives of trans people in Lebanon. These emerging voices bring fresh perspectives to the art world.

A Graduating Class of Emerging Galleries

This year, four galleries that participated in the Galeries Émergentes sector in 2022 are graduating to the main sector, Galeries. These galleries, Antenna Space from Shanghai, Galerie Anne Barrault from Paris, Carlos/Ishikawa from London, and Edouard Montassut from Paris, are further enriching the artistic tapestry of the event.

New Additions and Fresh Perspectives

Adding to the event’s dynamic mix are six international galleries of significance, each offering a unique profile. They include Blum from Los Angeles, New York, and Tokyo, Bortolami from New York, kurimanzutto from Mexico City and New York, Jan Mot from Brussels, Richard Nagy Ltd. from London, and P.P.O.W from New York. These galleries bring fresh perspectives, expanding the range of artistic expression.

Welcoming Emerging Talent

The Galeries Émergentes sector is also opening its doors to nine new galleries, such as Bank from Shanghai, Document from Chicago and Lisbon, Emalin from London, Fanta-MLN from Milan, Felix Gaudlitz from Vienna, Gianni Manhattan from Vienna, PM8 / Francisco Salas from Vigo, Smac Art Gallery from Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Stellenbosch, and Galeria Stereo from Warsaw. This infusion of emerging talent adds an exciting dimension to the event.

Beyond the Grand Palais Éphémère

Beyond the grand setting of the Grand Palais Éphémère, Paris+ par Art Basel extends its influence across the city. With artworks freely accessible to the public and a Conversations program in six iconic venues, the event becomes a citywide celebration of art.

The program includes a group exhibition in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, a duo exhibition at the Palais d’Iéna, a monumental textile sculpture at the parvis de l’Institut de France, a multimedia installation at the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and a towering aluminum sculpture by Urs Fischer on the Place Vendôme. Conversations will unfold at the Centre Pompidou.

This second edition of Paris+ par Art Basel promises an immersive cultural experience, where art transcends boundaries, uniting artists, galleries, and art enthusiasts from around the world in the magical setting of Paris.
