In the heart of London’s Mayfair district, the 15th edition of PAD London unfolded on Berkeley Square from October 10 to 15, 2023. This milestone event drew a remarkable turnout of 29,200 visitors, firmly establishing its position as the UK’s premier design fair. Over the course of a week, 62 international exhibitors, including 12 first-time participants, showcased a dazzling array of 20th-century design, contemporary design, and collectible jewelry. The Collectors Preview on October 10 was a resounding success, attracting a record 6,100 guests and generating robust sales.

 

 

The 15th edition of PAD London was marked by a palpable sense of excitement and the introduction of several new and innovative elements. This year, contemporary design took center stage, captivating collectors with fresh creations from international designers. Pioneering galleries like Objects With Narratives, Ormond Editions, and Gallery LVS & Craft made their debut, leaving an indelible mark on the fair.

 

 

Objects With Narratives was awarded the Stand Prize for their presentation of contemporary masterpieces by Vladimir Slavov and Mircea Anghel. Ormond Editions celebrated the successful sale of the Romane Table Inox by Garnier & Linker for €24,500 to Franco-Korean buyers, forging connections with a discerning new international clientele.

Gallery LVS & Craft, specialists in contemporary ceramics from Korea, reported significant sales, including the sale of Gasan Lee Yongsoon’s moon jar for £10,000 to French-British buyers. The gallery praised the “unique and distinctive style” of the collectors in attendance.

Galerie Philia had an impressive debut, with French artist Elsa Foulon emerging as their best seller. Notably, several sales were made to collectors residing in London, signifying a strong local presence.

 

 

Galerie kreo, Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Stefanidou Tsoukala Gallery, and Nilufar expressed their enthusiasm at the discerning clientele in attendance. Nilufar, in particular, with two stands this year, noted the exceptional sociability and engagement with international collectors and connoisseurs.

Thomas Fritsch-Artrium and Maisonjaune Studio declared the edition an enormous success, with international clientele outnumbering their Parisian counterparts. Adrian Sassoon achieved impressive sales, with standout pieces like the £85,000 Plants Exotica chandelier by Junko Mori finding an English buyer.

 

 

 

 

88 Gallery premiered works by Roxane Lahidji, Ben Storms, and Lukas Cober, selling a specially made table for £28,000 to a buyer from Bahrain, marking the event as a resounding success.

In the realm of 20th-century design, historical dealers at PAD London showcased their enthusiasm. Galerie Gastou reported strong sales, emphasizing the commitment of collectors who genuinely cherish the event. Laffanour / Galerie Downtown sold a Charlotte Perriand bookcase to a French collector, and Galerie Meubles et Lumières and Galerie Jacques Lacoste celebrated connecting with new buyers from Spain, South Africa, and Iran.

 

 

First-time exhibitor Unforget showcased a rare Flower lamp by Line Vautrin, finding a new home with a Belgian buyer. Unforget noted the shift in atmosphere, citing a more interactive and sociable engagement with the UK and French audience.

Collectible jewelry shone brightly at PAD London this year, with eight exhibitors promoting the interdisciplinary dialogue between art, design, and jewelry design. New exhibitor Elie Top reported that their experience exceeded expectations, with visitors showing genuine interest and encouragement in their endeavors.
