Milan Design Week 2020 is coming very soon, and there are many expectations around the surprises around the city each year. Every year there are many places to go during the whole period, and there are a couple of essential areas which become more colourful. CovetED will be showing you the main areas you can check out during this period, specifically Fuorisalone, the Design Districts, and some monuments around the city.
Aside from Salone del Mobile, Fuorisalone is the event par excellence in Milan city, or rather a set of events. The initiative as a whole provides an official guide to the event, being supported by the Milan City Council since 2003. Not much is known about its official programme right now, however, this whole initiative is marked by a rich selection of side events. Every year you can count on a variety of exhibitions, special openings, DJ sets, cocktail parties as well as site-specific installations and projects. All of these are spread throughout Milan’s design districts which we will be talking about below.
Within the bohemian Brera Design District, you can find a Pinacoteca and art Academy famed throughout the world. Among the main highlights, you can see at any time of the year, you can count on a unique set of antique shops, galleries, showrooms and prestigious locations. During Milan Design Week 2020, expect the presence of the world’s most prestigious brands, as well as a selection of unique cultural events that will be introducing you to the novelties in design.
The main highlight of Ventura District is definitely the Ventura Future and Ventura Centrale both of which introduce a unique set of furniture showcases. Not only that, but you can also count on a unique visual experience within Milan’s Stazione Centrale. Every year this abandoned site gains a new form of life thanks to a very unusual and appealing showcase featuring an eclectic mix of both emerging as well as established brands.
Throughout the year Tortona is known for being an area defined by a varied set of displays within former warehouses and factories. This is an urban area with a “vibey” atmosphere that provides the area with a unique dynamic. Here you can also find SUPERSTUDIO, known as the pioneer of the Fuorisalone phenomenon in the district. During Milan Design Week, this place becomes a vibrant area which welcomes several examples of interior design talent. It’s no wonder this is the most visited and sought-after place of the Tortona District since 2000.
Going to Milan city and not seeing the Duomo is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. The fourth-largest cathedral in the world is stunning both inside and outside with traces of its past during the 14th century and the time it was rebuilt during the reign of Napoleon. Not far from the church is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, where all the shopaholics who wish to get lost in the wonders of Milan’s offers in fashion.
For a deeper insight into the history of Milan city, we definitely recommend you check out essential places such as the fascinating Castello Sforzesco, or the Pinacoteca di Brera for the best works of the Renaissance era, and even take a chance to check out The Last Supper in its full splendour. There are also incredible ways to experience the city in its fullest especially during the sunny weather which installs itself during Milan Design Week, such as taking a boat to Milan and Lombardy, ride a bike along the Navigli and have a unique dining experience on rails.
