This year, for the September edition of Maison et Objet 2019, USA is the country highlighted for the Rising Talent Awards! Previous editions of the award have focused on emerging talents from China, the United Kingdom, Italy and Lebanon. This time, they have decided to focus on the United States of America, whose size and cultural diversity have led to impressive design achievements. Maison et Objet 2019, the Paris-recognized international trade fair of design, decoration, and lifestyle is surrounded by the best of design in many levels. There are many different sectors that are celebrating amazing creations and designers, and The Rising Talent Awards are a great example of it. From a lighting designer who fills rooms with blossoms and bubbles to a product designer energized by his industrial Midwestern roots and a pair of artistic cousins who make sculptural metal furnishings, there are many American talents.

Previous editions honoured creativity in the United Kingdom, Italy, Lebanon, and China. Right now, the focus in on the United States of America, where a distinguished jury has surveyed American design and selected six individual practitioners or firms with exceptional skills and promise. From September 6-10th, these top American designers will be displayed at this edition of Maison et Objet.
Seven design experts based in the United States applied their far-reaching perspectives in choosing these Rising Talents. Rafael de Cárdenas, the principal of Architecture at Large, Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat, founders of the annual WantedDesign trade show and cultural event in New York, Jerry Helling, president and creative director of Bernhardt Design, Nasir Kassamali, co-founder of the design emporium Luminaire, David Rockwell, award-winning architect and designer and Rosanne Somerson, president of Rhode Island School of Design.
The jurors recommended award winners based on excellence, and once they decided on the chosen designers, they realized that Brooklyn was definitely becoming the design capital of the United States of America. These six chosen designers stood out for their amazing and innovative projects, that really captured the juror’s eye.
The jurors chose designers such as Alex Brokamp, Bailey Fontaine, Green River Project, Harold, Kin & Company, Rosie Li. And it’s through these initiatives that make Maison Et Objet 2019 one of the top design events at a worldwide level.
