Essência do Vinho – Lisbon: Best Of

Essência do Vinho – Lisbon is an event organized by Revista de Vinhos since 1999. Over the years it has established itself as the sector’s reference event in the Portuguese capital. The publication was acquired in 2017 by Essência, a company founded in 2004 and exclusively owned, since the beginning of 2022, by Nuno Guedes Vaz Pires. It is today a reference in the production of wine and gastronomy events in Portugal, also acting in the dissemination of Portuguese wines in other markets – European, American and Asian.

With the public announcement of the new dates until 2025, this Monday ended the 23rd edition of Essência do Vinho – Lisbon, the Revista de Vinhos Meeting. Over three days, the event registered a 33% increase in visitors compared to last year’s edition, with more than 2,000 professionals being present – sommeliers, restaurant and wine cellar owners, especially in Greater Lisbon, distributors, consultants, wine importers, supermarket chain buyers/modern distribution.

The renewal of the consumer public, which had been noticeable since 2017, was also accentuated in this 23rd edition and, among international visitors, the huge influx of Brazilians to the event deserves to be underlined, something that is partly explained by the influence in that market of the Brazilian magazine Gula, partner of this initiative and one of the titles of Essência.

“A great success, which exceeded our best expectations”, states Nuno Guedes Vaz Pires, founder of Essência. “When we acquired Revista de Vinhos in 2017, our main objective was to relaunch this event, which had been going on for almost 20 years. The idea was to affirm it as the great wine event in Lisbon. So we did, we put it with another positioning, from the programming, to the image, to the communication strategy, to the dynamism that we bring to it. We combine international wines with the great references of our country, we follow trends without ever forgetting the classics”, he emphasizes.

“We grew 33% over last year in terms of visitors, we also grew in terms of exhibitors, all parallel activities were sold out. Saturday and Sunday we welcome, above all, the consumer public, but demanding and knowledgeable. On the last day, the day of professionals, we surpassed 2,000 subscribers. That’s what we work for. The general satisfaction of exhibitors and audiences, the highly positive feedback we have obtained is our best reward for all the work carried out”, underlines Nuno Guedes Vaz Pires.

Essência do Vinho – Lisbon, the Revista de Vinhos Meeting, will return to the Lisbon Congress Center, in Junqueira, with a calendar already signed for the next three years: from November 4th to 6th, 2023, from November 9th to 11th, November 2024, and November 8-10, 2025.
