During this week, the traditional and charming village of Cascais, in Lisbon, will host the Rolex TP52 World Championship, the world championship of one of the most emblematic and professional sailing fleets, the TP52 class.

The Rolex TP52 World Championship, the highlight of the annual 52 Super Series, was founded in 2008 and it is always held in different locations such as Mallorca, in Spain, and Scarlino, in Italy. It has Rolex, the world-renowned watch brand, as the Official Timepiece.

The event will take place at Clube Naval de Cascais, a sports club linked to nautical sports. Since its foundation, in 1938, it has played a main role in the evolution of nautical sports in Portugal, being a host and organizer for many renowned events such as the ISAF World Championships, America’s Cup World Series, and other Olympic class championships.

From the 20th to the 25th of June, nine sailboats, from six different nationalities, crewed by some of the best sailors in the world – including Olympic medalists and world champions – will compete in Cascais for the world title, in a battle that is expected to be very discussed, due to the participation of three teams that have previously won the title: Quantum Racing, Platoon, and Sed.

The 2022 Rolex TP52 World Championship will begin with an official practice day on June 20th, followed by five days of races from 21st to 25th of June, in which up to ten races will be held. Besides being a world championship, this event is also part of the 52 Super Series world calendar, a circuit that consists of 5 stages, established as the main Gran Prix championship for monohull yachts, that is currently led by the American team Quantum Racing, with 19 points, followed by the German team Platoon, with 26 points, and the South African team, Phoenix, that closes the podium, with 27 points.
