A student, a design practitioner, or just a curious person interested in understanding how the fine art of design is relevant to life, no matter what they do for a living, what really matters is how they contribute to the world of design and change everything around them with their projects and all of the creative processes behind them.

The question was the same for every interviewee: “How do you celebrate design in your work, in your life?” However, the answers were very different and always an exciting surprise!

“In our company this is attention to detail and the story that is behind the product. For many people there is also the story about the purchase. So from our perspective, we can tell the part of the story of the design inspiration which lies in where the product comes from, its details. We are actually a vertically integrated manufacturer. Thus, we make our products and don’t buy them from the commodity manufacturer. We pay attention to every detail from the beginning of the design process until the product is hanging in the customer’s home. That part of the story, I think, is what makes us special.”

Daniel J. Cohen (Swarovski)

“25º anniversary of Baxter. End of July restore a cinema. It’s like a concept store, with a private cinema, a bar, and events – an artist that paints, another that makes lamps, a showroom, and so on. There are famous designers, but also so many designers that approach the market. We want to help them to grow in the market. They come to me with the process, and they can learn with the past. That’s how we like to celebrate design.”

Vincenzo de Cotiis (Baxter)

“I have a double answer. The first company answer, is that we really believe in design and that’s why we’re promoting an international competition of design, both for students and for professionals, through the university of Milan, and we give the opportunity to people from all around the world to present their projects. The winners will have a money prize and also the opportunity to have the products produced by us. So this is a way of giving an opportunity to young people that never had the opportunity to meet the company, to promote their products. And the other thing is that we celebrate beauty in everything we do.  I mean, we’re Italian and I think we have a peculiar taste that goes from the pair of shoes we wear to everyday objects. And this is very important to us.”

Tarcisio Colzani (Porada)

“Porro was started by my great grandfather 90 years ago. This year we are celebrating our 90th birthday. It started as a very small art design workshop. After that, it grew up during the economic boom in the 50s and then my grandfather and father turned it to a real industry. Thanks to our artistic director Pierro Lissoni, the face of the brand was changed, bringing it to the modern era, and this is how we will celebrate design this year”

Maria Porro (Porro)

Celebrating Design with Friends“It’s very difficult to say how we celebrate design, because design is part of our DNA. For us, it’s like everyday life, if you want.”

“My work is my passion. First of all, my job is the job of my life. So I don’t work, I live it. I like all the object designs around me, all the objects made by friends, architects or designers. So if you come to my home, you will see a lot of different pieces. So I live surrounded by design and I like it.”

Gisella Borioli (Superstudio Group)

Overall, the main purpose of celebrating design with friends is to stay in the world of design and luxury.
