Jacques Grange is without a doubt one of the best interior designers and decorators in the world. Known for his exquisite style, characterized by a harmony between traditional and contemporary tastes, Grange is one of the very few interior designers who received a strict, classical education in the field. CovetED brings you all about the inspiring journey of this amazing designer. Enjoy!
World-renowned interior designer Jacques Grange has spent almost five decades creating unsurpassed projects for his elite clientele – including Yves Saint Laurent, Aerin Lauder, Princess Caroline of Monaco and Francis Ford Coppola – and he stands as an iconic figure still giving shape to French design.

His particular style, so effortless that it has been described as not decorated at all, appears as timeless and everlasting, thanks to the influences of his academic education and the various important figures that have shaped his artistic persona: his strict education started at 15, when he enrolled at the École Boulle to study gilding, plaster carving, cabinetmaking and upholstery and then at the École Camondo for interior design.

Important figures for his professional growth had been legendary French designer Henri Samuel, decorator Madeleine Castaing, and art patron Marie-Laure de Noailles. But it was Didier Aaron – when he became a part of his Parisian team – who gave him the chance to start what later became an amazing career made of iconic projects.
One of his major encounters has been the one with Yves Saint Laurent, for whom he created different projects, from a villa in Marrakech to a Proust-themed Château Gabriel in Normandy for which he took inspiration from “In Search of Lost Time”. Jacques Grange has said about that particular client: “Of all the houses I have decorated, those I have decorated for Yves Saint Laurent are the most important part of my work”. His signature style manages to convey a harmonious vibe, thanks to the balance between traditional and contemporary elements; not even an element seems out of place.
Among Jacques Grange’s major projects, we can consider highlights the Paloma Picasso‘s jewellery shop in New York City, the Mark Hotel on Madison Avenue, and the Barbizon Hotel. Some of his current works have brought him to Lima, Brittany, Paris and New York. His willingness to conjure audacious atmospheres where opposite elements balance each other has made him a true icon in the design field.
