The American studio, Roger Ferris + Partners, has placed a contemporary good-looking structure containing a swimming pool into a beautiful coloured green hill, surrounded by a calm landscape with a direct view to the Connecticut sea. Don’t go anywhere, CovetED has more to say and to show you!
The owners of the place contact with the architecture firm because they wanted a pool house that would serve as an alternative for another property they owned on the proximities. For the project located in the village of Westport, Roger Ferris + Partners created a long bar that is tucked into a grassy berm, making it invisible from certain viewpoints. A green roof helps the structure to camouflage with the landscape.

“Set into a subtle incline just before the land drops off to meet the beachfront, it is almost invisible as one approaches from the main entrance of the estate,” pointed the American studio. The whole clean aspect of the building together with the light that penetrates through the large windows creates a precious atmosphere, ideal for those who want to relax by the pool.
On the exterior, a patio is sheltered by an aluminium trellis, which casts dramatic shadows throughout the day, when focusing on the interior, it supports several zones. The eastern side has a living space with contemporary furnishings and a colourful tapestry with the authorship of British artist Grayson Perry.

A glazed partition separates the comfort of the sun loungers from the main piece of the whole structure, a turquoise-blue swimming pool with 28 meters long. Beneath the hill, the pool house is equipped with the carefully-polished dressing room, a bathroom, a kitchenette and laundry facilities. Geothermal heating completes the process of the project, as all the mechanical elements that aim to preserve the building’s minimal aesthetic.
“Geothermal heating and cooling systems avert the need for chimneys or any other visible infrastructure,” said Roger Ferris + Partners. “All vents, tracks and mechanicals and cleverly hidden to keep the form as crisp, clean and minimal as possible.”
