When the great architect Zaha Hadid unexpectedly passed away over two years ago, she left behind dozens of the most beautiful structures in the world, a scattering of incomplete projects, and several homes where she had lived. This week, one of those homes has just been sold.
Located in Miami’s South Beach, the three-bedroom, four-bathroom apartment was where Hadid had lived while working on her soon-to-be-completed structure, One Thousand Museum (her apartment was close to the nearly completed skyscraper). As a result, the 2,541-square-foot apartment was the last home the starchitect was residing in before her death in March 2016.
The apartment was originally purchased by Hadid in 2010 as two separate units, for almost $4 million in total. The architect then combined them into a massive corner unit space. After her death, the condo was placed on the market for $10 million, then reduced to $6.5 million in November 2016. This week, the apartment was reportedly sold to New York and Boston-based tech executive Ray Bassiouni for $5.75 million.
Zaha Hadid—who was known for marvellously designed buildings such as the Maxxi National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan, and the London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics—added her signature touch to the space.
Almost every room in the 2,541-square-foot apartment overlooks the water, with especially breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean from the balcony.
