Paris Design Week 2018: Meet the Finalists of the Rado Prize Contest ⇒ One of the most important components of Paris Design Week is the prestigious Rado Prize Contest, organised by the Swiss watch brand. This year’s theme will be all about nature. A transversal and polysemic theme that through the knowledge of emerging designers will be put to good use in the promoting of design and innovation. The competition consists of a jury prize and a public prize aiming to make the winners’ projects known to the entire design community. According to the representatives of Rado, the theme will implicate a search for materials, textures and forms that were inspired by the world of nature. Designers must have a sensitivity when it comes to the sustainable of the materials so as to transmit to future generations a sense of durability, emotion and awareness of alternative consumption.
“There is a small city in Sicily that rises on a calcareous land. Clean, drinkable water flows from a mountain very rich in minerals, into the city’s hydraulic system. In the pipes, rocks magically grow like stalactites and stalagmites.”
Moseley created a Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in regards to lighting products for interiors. This will incorporate the movement of nature’s light cycle by the use/interaction of body through motion, specifically focusing on aesthetics.
Stone created this project as a way to make design into an enchanment tool not only for the sapce but also the user’s needs. BO’OY is bound to bring unexpected, changing and fun elements into one’s life.
This project was created to incentive play in adults. It was originated from the designer’s wondering on why adults don’t engage in spontaneous body play as children do.
This project consists on the creation of a functional double 16GB USB memory stick combining pewter, walnut and a magnetic closure.
Scott Ridgway’s Magé Cabinet was designed as a celebration of Japanese and whisky culture. It meshes an intricate symbiotic relationship between two halves, the weight and visual simplicity of the cabinet and the delicacy of the branch inspired base.
This modular design allows users to be more interactive with the actual product. Designing furniture is a way to create an attachment to the user.
The Giant’s Causeway is an inspiring place of stunning natural beauty, grandeur and mystique. Interlocking hexagonal columns of ancient black basalt rise out of the ocean forming a majestic stepped pathway to the land.
“The aim of this project was to encourage greater use of portable lighting in the modern home. As battery and LED technology continues to improve, we are able to return to more traditional lighting scenarios, cable free and without any restrictions.”
Comprised of a compatible stool and beach, the Tartufo collection celebrates some of the intrinsic qualities of vegetable-tanned leather.
