Helsinki Design Week presents the new faces and phenomena of design, promotes design internationally in collaboration with various partners and offers city citizens through design a forum to participate in developing and discussing the city and its culture. The festival programme contains around 250 events every year and includes both events targeted for professionals and the general public.
In 2017, this Design Week boasted about 161,000 visitors. It’s expected that the 2018 Edition will reach the 200,000 visitors mark! The Helsinki Design Week is produced by the design service agency Luovi Productions Oy that was founded in 1995 by Kari Korkman, and it began with producing products such as bags and laptop cases. Helsinki Design Week has its origins in 2001 when Luovi was launching a new collection of bags in an exhibition called DesignPartners01.
From the 1st Edition in 2001 till now many things have changed and this festival is bigger than ever. A great party filled with design and elegance is in the making that will include events like The Children’s Weekend or the incredible PechaKucha Nights! So don’t miss this event!
The HDW Children’s Design Week takes over the Helsinki City Museum where is plenty to do for the family’s little ones for a whole week. Children can experience design and architecture in different workshops. At the City Hall, children reflect on how urban people promote different lifestyles in urban communities. Through phenomenal learning, they also get into the history of school meals and especially the future.
The high point of HDW Children’s Design Week is the Children’s Weekend family event organized at Kattilahalli in Suvilahti on 15 and 16 September.
During the weekend, Kattilahalli turns into a Magic Forest created by illustrator Leena Kisonen, which allows adventures in various workshops with different animals.
In addition to workshops, Finnish and international kids’ clothing brands have their collections on sale at the Little Market.
The Little Market sales event is organized for the fifth time as part of the Children’s Weekend. In this event, Finnish and international kids’ clothing brands sell their new autumn collections. VIMMA’s new #bebrave prints will be available to see and buy for the first time at the Little Market.
The new Helsinki Design Awards brings together the most skilled designers in Finland and the companies that honour their design to recognize them.
